There are lots of small fittings and pieces to get to know, and customers will ask you questions you may not be able to answer at first, so be sure to utilize the knowlege of your coworkers when you're not alone!

Very friendly employees along with very flexible scheduling. Very applicable work environment.

What I wish was different

I wish I was trained in other departments to obtain more knowledge about home appliances and different aspects about home improvement

Advice

I would share that working in a hardware and home improvement store is different than a regular retailer because it tests the ability to understand how to find different products as well as learning how different products relate and differ from each other when designing a house or building different household things.

I had to resign because I had to leave for India. They wouldn’t give time off. Also hours were not flexible.

Not recommended for full time students, they don’t work around hours.

Always ask questions in any new work environment, they cannot get mad for clarification but they can get mad if you don’t do it right.

What I liked

The scheduler was amazingly flexible for my school schedule, and the coworkers I had were amazing! They even brought me gifts for my birthday. Really amazing associates and great flexibility with scheduling.

What I wish was different

I wish the organization overall in the company was better. The managers could also be more associate-oriented rather than focusing solely on the numbers.

Advice

Make sure you clarify what you want your schedule to be as soon as possible so there isn't any confusion. Aside from that, do your job and all will be well. Another last piece of advice for any job, don't be afraid to befriend management; it will help you immensely.

What I liked

Great coworkers and management. They gave me a temporary full-time position for the summer because they knew I was in college and wanted to help me as much as possible

What I wish was different

I would often find myself alone in my department when we would really need at least two associates. This caused a lot of unnecessary stress, but it's manageable after a couple of months of experience.

Advice

Be expected to work hard and have customers from all walks of life and in very different moods. If you're good with customers and always giving good service, this job will be a great experience.
