Fast Food Worker

June 2020 • Miami, FL

What I liked

Putting in my best effort in a historical and unprecedented time like a pandemic. Ensuring food was delivered with top service and efficiency while adhering to increased safety measures. I like the friendly people i work with that have handled the change very well and I like the precautions the restaurant has taken to respect the safety of the workers.

What I wish was different

Considering we make up a crucial sector of essential workers, I wish the workers were respected by customers more often and not taken for granted. I wish there was better communication between the customers as many would enter the restaurant and not understand the proper procedures to keep us themselves and us protected.

Advice

It is important to remain calm, diligent, and compassionate with customers as well as fellow workers. I think it's important to set the example whether it be handling a conflict or wanting to deliver better service. It's crucial to respect others the way you want to be respected, especially co-workers as we all want to be able to do our work well and safely.

Crew member

June - October 2020 • Mechanicsville, VA

What I liked

The response was rather quick to my request and that helped since I was looking to get cash quick and even though covid-19 was happening I was able to maintain a safe 30 hour per week schedule.

What I wish was different

Not much since I was working and I was getting paid but if anything I hope that my next job will give me more break time since I only got lunch breaks for 8+ hour shifts

Advice

It's great for quick cash if you can put in hours and deal with working for long shifts but if your looking for a better pay per hour I wouldn't recommend this job.

Crew Member

September 2017 • Stockton, CA

What I liked

I liked the community there. I enjoyed working with other crew members and managers there. They were like a family to me.

What I wish was different

I wish we had raises. I've been working there for over 2 years now and I haven't received a raise yet. I wish crew members received 3 free items instead of a 50% discount on 3 items. Managers only get paid 75 cents more than employees. As a crew member, I feel that that pay raise becoming a manager is not enough. I wish we had bonuses like the General Manager. Crew Members make the effort to sell sour cream but the bonus money for sour cream sales go to managers. Majority of the time, it is Crew Members selling the sour cream to customers.

Advice

I would say that Taco Bell or any fast food restaurant is a good first job but I would not recommend working there forever. I've learned a lot about this experience and that is why I am attending college now so that I don't get stuck at a fast food restaurant. I would say to always strive to do something better than Taco bell or any fast food. Not that these are bad jobs but with my experience, I feel that it's a good job to make money on the side, but it's a lot better to invest your time and money into a job that you'll actually be passionate about. Do what ever it takes to reach your goal in life even if that means you have to work at a fast food restaurant to get there. That is my opinion and not everyone will think the same as I do.
