What I wish was different

Your experience will depend heavily (I cannot stress this enough) on the project/team that you are placed on. Based on this, interns may have an amazing or terrible 10 weeks. Furthermore, you don't find out about any assignment details until the first day of the job. AT&T, as a company, is unable to forecast what types of projects they will need interns on months in advance.

Nothing, I worked extremely hard this summer to prove that Central produces the best of the best.

Put your head down and start calling. Easiest way to make a sale is keep calling.

It was fantastic to meet active professionals, it is super helpful to meet others in the fields you find interesting that can help guide you, even if just a little bit.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had focused more on gaining a hard skill. I focused mainly on soft skills such as public speaking, presentation skills, and writing skills.

Advice

Anything that you go into you must go into it looking to gain everything you can from it. I went into my experience looking for specific things to gain, but that reduces your experiences to what matches your expectations instead of opening your experiences to all that you are exposed to.

The people at the company are very welcoming and I enjoyed the company culture. You can tell that they care about their interns.

What I wish was different

I wish they would have given me more challenging tasks. Some of the work seemed trivial and unimportant. I wanted to feel like I was making a difference.

I would advise an intern to meet as many people as possible and try to get practice networking.

What I liked

It was a great learning experience for my first sales internship! Great company that had a great work environment and made it a fun internship! The housing and included meals are a big perk too!

What I wish was different

The days got repetitive after a while of working there. Very individualized work and wish it was more collaborative.

Advice

If you want to go into sales, this role teaches you a lot, but it is very sales heavy and your days are very repetitive so be ready for that.

I loved the community of people I worked with. They were people my age with similar interests but from different parts of the country.

I wish I could’ve spent more time interacting with customers face to face.

If Sales is a “numbers game” of cold calling, then you have to embrace how much it’s going to suck from the very beginning. Shake off rejection and accept that it takes grinding through a lot of calls to generate leads.

You don't get to necessarily pick your desired department, but I still had a blast in the one I was put in.
