AT&T

Software Developer Intern

June - August 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I had a wonderful experience working at AT&T. The team I worked on was extremely friendly and very fun to work with. There were a bunch of younger adults or recent college grads on the team that always made sure I was having a good time. The people at AT&T really wanted me to learn and grow, and spent lots of time teaching me about their technologies. I loved my experience there and am very thankful for the opportunity I had.

Cyber Security Internship

June - August 2018 • Middletown Township, NJ

What I liked

The environment and team that I worked in was great. I had a lot of independence while working on my projects and it did not feel like I was always being watched.

What I wish was different

This was the first year of a CSO intern so I was the only one in that department in the Middletown location,

Advice

If you have questions about anything don't be afraid to ask. Everyone is extremely help you're there to help the company but the people are also there to help you grow too.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Bothell, WA

What I liked

Great culture, tons of fun and exciting projects to work on with lots of time for mentorship and learning. My personal boss and all mentors were extremely kind and understanding of what I wanted to do and how things were progressing. My work felt valuable and beneficial.

What I wish was different

The pay was definitely not as competitive for the Seattle area, however, the main issue around that is 2500$ can barely fit one month of rent in Seattle much less 3. The hardware was also severely outdated and complicated a lot of work or slowed it significantly.

Advice

Check out their compensation package to make sure you can afford to go wherever it is. Although I wouldn't recommend this as a first choice above the big N, it would get a strong recommendation as to the culture and potential work is well worth the takeback in compensation. A note, my experience seems to be rather unique because of my boss as he was very much focused on having us get as much out of it as we could. Some of my peers did not have a good time due to apathetic managers and such so take this with a grain of salt.

Software Engineer Intern

June - August 2018 • Middletown Township, NJ

What I liked

Learned a wide variety of technologies not normally taught in my school. The hours were flexible; I was able to bend the hours to fit my schedule, as long as I worked 40 hours a week and was able to attend intern events. Several intern events throughout the summer. Pay was really good among the other companies in the area. I got a total of 3 vacation days off.

What I wish was different

Advice

I was in the technology development program. The experience really depends on your team. Management will help you but I know some interns did not have a lot of work to do. Be active and ask your mentors questions if you get stuck so you can continue development and get work done.

I enjoyed interning with AT&T because I was able to return as a marketing intern for Cricket Wireless where I was able to see a different side of the company from my previous year working there. They gave me the autonomy to ask questions and offer suggestions.

Technical Business Manager Intern

June - August 2019 • Middletown Township, NJ

What I liked

I enjoyed the work life balance, the culture of the company, the internship program, and the people that I worked with. Every intern was extremely talented in their own way and the internship program was designed to help us all learn more about cutting edge technologies, business strategies, and corporate methodologies. The directors, mentors, and business partners gave meaningful work that could provide value to the company and gave guidance throughout the summer. When tired, there was ping pong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, FIFA, and other recreational games that were available. There were many opportunities to grow and it was awesome working on a large campus with a Fortune 10 company.

What I wish was different

I wish there was free food in their cafeteria for lunch. Also, I wish their was an easier way to get around their large campus, such as scooters or bicycles.

Advice

Always be hungry to learn new things. It is important to be eager to grow and willing to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Classes at university can only teach you so much; largely, many of the useful skills are developed on the job and in the industry.

Summer Intern

June - July 2020 • Jericho, NY

What I liked

I loved how At&t covered different aspects of the company, technical skills in the information/computer industry, and other skills that can be applied to any industry, job, and even daily life.

What I wish was different

I kinda wish some of the online lectures and lessons were formatted to be more consistent as sometimes different lessons had different mechanisms to grade/teach that made it a bit jarring moving from lesson to lesson. Also just put all the lecture videos on Youtube; as I found that the video player most lessons used was clunky; as most of the videos did not allow or the viewer to back up or move about the video easily without restarting the whole video.

Advice

Make sure to keep up with the lessons, secessions, ad lectures as you don't want all the material to pile up on you.

Product Marketing Intern

January 2019 • Plano, TX

What I liked

From the beginning, I was treated as a full member of the team and given so much responsibility with my own projects. If you have the dedication and work ethic, you can achieve practically anything you want to. I've been able to learn so much about data science, AI, machine learning, augmented reality, and more, which is not what I expected from a marketing internship! The people are great, the work is really interesting, and it's been an overall fantastic experience.
