Camp Counselor

May - August 2019 • Sugar Land, TX

What I liked

I really enjoyed working with children and improving my teamwork skills. I realized that part of working with children is learning from them everyday- a set schedule never oes as planned so being open to flexibility and being authentic really makes each day successful.

What I wish was different

I wish that friendships were fostered more while on the job so that even after we stop working together, reaching out to my coworkers would feel more natural.

Advice

Children are a lot. Come in with an open mind and be ready to release your inner child. Being patient is really important and also make this an experience that you would've wanted to have as a child.

Lifeguard

June - August 2019 • Vestavia Hills, AL

What I liked

The people I worked with were nice and laidback for the most part. Most guards were high school or college aged. You get tan and can get in the pool.

What I wish was different

We were constantly understaffed, and the pay is much lower than what I'd expect given the amount of work I had to do. There is no cleaning staff for the aquatics department, so guards are made to clean everything, including the pool. Guards were expected to work even during safety breaks, which kind of defeats the purpose of the safety break.

Advice

Wear lots of sunscreen and hydrate often. Make sure you rest on safety breaks. The heat can cause exhaustion very quickly, and the managing staff didn't seem to take that into account until someone passed out.

Marketing Analyst Intern

What I liked

I loved the work I was doing and I loved working for a company I was passionate about. I received a free membership and was able to use the club before/during/after work.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have known earlier about a job opportunity post-grad, as I won't know until later this year.

Advice

You get out of it what you put into it. I became invested in the work I was doing and ended up enjoying going to work everyday!

Summer Camp Supervisor

November 2018 - September 2019 • Centennial, CO

What I liked

I loved the creativity and determination this position required. I was able to grow with the campers and the staff throughout the summer and improve the experience for all involved. I loved interacting with the kids on a daily basis and having a hands-on experience. It was a learning opportunity to hire, train, and manage a staff of 25 counselors, and a unique experience to learn from others.

What I wish was different

This position will vary in intensity depending on the managers and co-workers of the position. It most definitely will make or break the experience depending on who is supporting you.

Advice

It is a great opportunity to spend the summer with kids, swimming, playing, crafting, and reading. It was an excellent way to grow as a leader and individual.

Lead Camp Counselor

June 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

The benefits this job was offering such as the differing expierences of interacting with the children through rockwall, swimming, paid field trip activities as well as offering paid first aid/CPR courses and a paid membership to their gym.

What I wish was different

There were little improvements of the daily work life that can be amended to make sure the day's work was an easy flow in interacting with the children and parents.

Advice

To make this job even better, one has to be extremely openminded and not afraid to act a like child in order to connect with the children and make their school breaks better.

Preconstruction Intern

June 2023 • Chanhassen, MN

What I liked

I have loved the culture of Life Time, as well as the work that they had me doing as an Intern they taught me what to do in a very low stress environment to prepare me for the work I would be doing later in the summer

What I wish was different

I wish I could have started earlier since I got out of school in early May and they didn't let the interns start until June so I had a lot of downtime before I started and it seemed like it has gone by really fast since then

Advice

Ask questions and try to learn as much as you can because they are so friendly and willing to help
