City of Wyoming

Engineering Intern

May - November 2019 • Wyoming, MI

What I liked

I got to work on design projects that will actually be installed in the city (2 water mains). I also got to go out to construction sites and learn a little more about the construction process.

What I wish was different

Sometimes when we were asked to start a project, I was given very little initial information. It was hard to start because of this, but I just learned to ask a ton of questions.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you need.

Team 21 Group Leader

June - July 2019 • Wyoming, MI

What I liked

I loved the people I worked with, both students and staff. It was a very supportive work environment.

What I wish was different

Advice

I worked this with a second job because it doesn’t go for the whole summer. I would recommend that otherwise you’ll have a lot of time over the summer where you aren’t making money.

What I liked

Flexible start time, minimal supervision, results driven work environment, good co-workers.

What I wish was different

More information about extra responsibilities.

Advice

The basic job responsibilities are simple, but there are many opportunities to do extra work. You have to work hard to pursue these opportunities and it's more difficult on an off shift (2nd, 3rd shift).
