BBH focused on my development as an intern. They emphasized my learning and gave me tasks that helped me apply the knowledge I acquired at school. I also learned so much more than I could've ever imagined. The culture was also great. Everyone at the company really went out of their way to educate me and help me succeed. I was immediately a part of the team and was treated no differently than someone who was at the company for years. It was easy to communicate with everyone, and I met some people who I will remember always!

Advice
Take advantage of the openness of the firm! Speak to people and learn from their experiences. There's a wealth of knowledge to gain from, so don't be afraid to communicate with people from different departments and teams to learn from them.

Systems Intern
June - August 2021 • Boston, MA
What I liked
Working on a team where I felt like a contributing member. I never felt like I was just there listening, but also participating. I was able to learn so much from my managers and mentors. They had a lot of networking opportunities as well, allowing me to learn more about other business lines and job titles.
What I wish was different
I wish I had exposure to doing more things other than just a software developer role.
Advice
Take in as much as you can and learn everything you are able to. Ask other employees to get coffee to chat about what they do. Don't be afraid to ask for help or even for more to do.

Systems intern
July - August 2020 • Boston, MA
What I liked
The people at BBH were great, even under the circumstances of being in a pandemic they made sure that you felt comfortable and were able to network with anyone you were interested in learning more about.
What I wish was different
This was remote due to COVID, so I wish that it was in person (like it was supposed to be) but nothing you can do about that!
Advice
Take advantage of your time at BBH and get to know as many people as you can. Many of the senior employees have been in many different department and positions so they are always really interesting to talk to.

Equity Research Analyst
June - August 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
Incredibly valuable experience and training in modeling and research. Had the opportunity to work on a small team of all MBA+, experienced investors. Met CEOs from some of the largest US companies in due diligence processes. Beautiful area right off of Wall Street. Personal and intimate attention from manager.
What I wish was different
Not a very structured program, so its up to you to learn what you have to learn. Not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware that you won't be surrounded by many interns doing the same thing as you. (but there are lots of other interns in the office in different roles)
Advice
The pay for the internship is low but the full time salary if you get a return offer is much more attractive

What I wish was different
More structure in designing the code
Advice
If anticipating a full-time offer upon completion, apply to other places near the end of the internship. This will give you other offers to compare it to in case the current place gives you a short time limit to accept.

Intern, Chief Technology Office
June - August 2017 • Boston, MA
What I liked
This internship is really great for people who have an interest in business/entrepreneurship as well as technology. I was in the Chief Technology Office at BBH, a place whose mission is to brainstorm what new technologies should be incorporated into the bank. In that role I got to work on a few fun research and development projects, one of which involved developing several new skills for the Amazon Alexa voice service. On top of my technical work, the interns were split into teams of six and worked on creating a pitch of a company we thought should be acquired by a BBH client called ZOLL Medical. At the end of the internship we got to present our pitch to the CEO, CFO, and chief business strategist at ZOLL, which was awesome!!! BBH also brought in several CEOs from client companies to talk to us about how they started their businesses, which I really enjoyed. There were 38 interns in the Boston office, so I definitely made friends! There was also extremely easy access to senior leadership in the firm. I was in constant contact with the CTO of BBH and got to have personal meetings with a senior partner of the firm to get career advice.
What I wish was different
BBH is 200 years old. A lot of their technology is very outdated and they are also very conservative with adopting new technologies. As a technology oriented person, this was sometimes frustrating. Also, my goal going into the internship was to get software development experience, and I didn't end up working on a team that was doing that (although other interns were).
Advice
Create a network in your workplace! You never know who is going to help you out in the future.
