Year-Long Missionary

Catholic Mission Trips, Inc. runs week-long domestic and international mission trips for high school and college groups. We serve in areas of chronic poverty and in areas that have recently been affected by natural disasters. Perhaps you have been on a week-long mission trip with CMT or another group and have been deeply impacted by your encounter with Christ. As a year-long missionary, you have the opportunity to “smell like the sheep” and so encounter Christ and care for the people we serve in a deeper way. This is a perfect missionary service opportunity for a gap-year, a year of discernment, or for those considering a long-term career as a missionary.


 

Compensation Package

  • Room and board while on mission
  • Travel expenses while on mission
  • Weekly stipend, based on fundraising
  • No health or other benefits included


 

Year-Long Missionaries:

  • Preach the Gospel and share about the mighty works of God in CMT with one’s parish, family, schools, community, workplace, and local business owners to contribute financially as Mission Partners
  • Build, maintain, and foster relationships in mission locations
  • Assess needs of communities
  • Oversee week-long mission trips
  • Lead teams of young adult CMT Mission Leaders in facilitating week-long mission trips
  • Empower team members
  • Make decisions and delegate tasks
  • Ensure safety on the work sites
  • Oversee the evening program
  • Communicate with group leaders
  • Collect paperwork
  • Maintain the budget
  • Other tasks as needed 
  • Pastorally accompany youth ministers
  • Discern spiritual needs for the mission

  • Diocese of Brownsville, TX: San Juan, Mercedes, Brownsville
  • Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, OK: Norman
  • Archdiocese of New Orleans, LA: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles
  • Diocese of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic
  • Diocese of Arecibo, Puerto Rico


 

Year-Long Missionary Timeline:

  • September - Training and Fundraising (remote)
  • October-December - Fundraising (remote), immersion and 1-4 mission trips
  • January-May - Immersion and 4-8 mission trips, training of summer Mission Leaders
  • June-August - 9 mission trips, debriefing

**Year-Long Missionaries will complete fundraising before entering into immersion, but may be permitted to lead week-long missions while in the fundraising process, at the discretion of the Executive Director. Year-Long Missionaries may request time off to visit family, outside of mission trip responsibilities.


 

Fundraising:

Year-Long Missionaries gain support from a team of Mission Partners to cover the cost of their expenses and salary. Living expenses and stipends come directly through God’s providence, as well as significant motivation and effort on behalf of the missionary.

  • $10,400 covers housing, meals, and transportation while on mission
  • $26,000 covers housing, meals, and transportation, plus a $15,600 ($300/week) stipend
  • $31,200 covers housing, meals, and transportation, plus a $20,800 ($400/week) stipend
  • $36,400 covers housing, meals, and transportation, plus a $26,000 ($500/week) stipend
