Intern, Media Relations

$18.55 per hour working 20 hours per week.

The internship will start on/around 6/2/2025 and end on/around 8/22/2025

Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking an Intern for the Media Relations department. As an intern, this position will introduce you to essential media relations software and techniques in a nonprofit setting in a way that supports the Media Relations department. You will gain experience writing short-form Twitter content, press releases and preparing other written documents for the media, using Cision and Muckrack software to target reporters for pitches, making calls to reporters to garner interest in Humane World for Animals stories and working on long-term media campaigns with members of our diverse Media Relations team. Participate in regular strategic department meetings, and help with larger, more complex projects that will foster teamwork and encourage creative thinking. This position reports to the Media Relations Senior Specialist.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Conduct research on reporters to support media outreach efforts;
• Monitor and track media coverage relevant to Humane World for Animals;
• Draft and route content on Twitter and Humane World for Animals News;
• Assist in drafting, editing, and distributing media advisories, news releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, and other press materials;
• Support the department with data collection and analytics to enhance media reach;
•Proofread and review blog posts written by the CEO.
  
Education and Experience:

• Pursuing or having graduated with a degree in media relations, public relations or communications preferred;
• Previous volunteer or internship experience with a non-profit organization, animal protection/advocacy organization or animal shelter preferred;

• Strong communication and critical thinking skills;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word;
• Able to work well independently and use good judgment.

This internship is remote.
