Regulatory and Legislative Policy Intern

Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) is recruiting a part-time “termed” (temporary) intern to support RCEA’s Regulatory and Legislative Policy division. The Regulatory and Legislative Policy intern will learn to identify, read and analyze applicable legislation and regulations. The intern will work directly with the Regulatory and Legislative Policy Manager to summarize and prepare presentations on application legislation and regulations for presentation to RCEA Staff, the Board of Directors, and/or the local community.  This is an excellent opportunity to start a career in energy and gain direct experience with legislative and regulatory policies. 

Under supervision of the Regulatory and Legislative Policy Manager, the Regulatory and Legislative Intern will:

  • Learn to research, identify, track, and monitor regulatory proposals and other policy issues, with an eye towards those that may impact RCEA
  • Receive guidance on reading, interpreting, and summarizing relevant proposals and filings
  • Assist the Manager in monitoring, analyzing, and summarizing relevant proposals and filings
  • Assist in preparing presentations to summarize relevant legislative updates for staff, the Board of Directors, and/or the community
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings with the Regulatory and Legislative Manager; RCEA departments; Board of Directors and/or others as assigned

Work Schedule and Benefits:

This is a temporary, non-exempt, part-time position; candidates may be regularly scheduled for up to 20 hours per week. The assignment is expected to last 2-4 months, dependent on workload and candidate’s availability. Work schedule is flexible during normal office hours; Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm. This position includes 8 hours of holiday pay, for any RCEA paid holiday(s) which occur during the appointment, 5 days of sick leave, and no additional employee benefits. Work will occur in-person at the RCEA Eureka office and may also include working at other sites throughout Humboldt.

About RCEA:

RCEA is a local government joint powers agency established in 2003, located in Eureka, California. RCEA’s purpose is to develop and implement sustainable energy initiatives that reduce energy demand, increase energy efficiency, and advance the use of clean, efficient, and renewable resources available in the region. RCEA launched a Community Choice Energy program in 2017 to procure electricity for Humboldt County residents and businesses. In addition to implementing energy efficiency projects throughout Humboldt County, RCEA is the Portfolio Administrator for the Northern Rural Energy Network, delivering energy efficiency programs throughout 17 North Coast and Sierra Nevada counties.
