
Summer Internship: XR Training for High-Risk Military Operations

Project Overview
We're seeking graduate students or exceptional undergraduates to contribute to an exciting cognitive enhancement project that combines digital applications, virtual reality, and physical challenges. This extended-reality (XR) system will be used to prepare military personnel for work in high-risk environments, integrating cutting-edge cognitive science with practical operational requirements.
Internship Responsibilities
- Develop physical training concepts that integrate specific cognitive domains with precise motor movements
- Design physical challenges that target multiple dimensions of human performance including strength, endurance, physiological regulation, and cognitive processing
- Assist in developing neuropsychological assessment materials with real-world operational relevance
- Document neuropsychological assessment literature findings with emphasis on performance under stress
- Help integrate virtual and real-world elements into seamless XR training experiences
- Support the development of performance assessment protocols that capture both physical and cognitive metrics
- Participate in prototype testing and provide user experience feedback from both technical and psychological perspectives
- Document findings and contribute to project reports for both scientific and military stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Psychology, Human Factors, Computer Science, or related field (exceptional undergraduates will be considered)
- Strong understanding of the relationship between physical movement and cognitive function
- Knowledge of neuropsychological assessment principles and their application in performance contexts
- Experience with physical training or exercise program design
- Ability to synthesize and document scientific literature with practical applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in multiple disciplines including exercise physiology, motor learning, and cognitive psychology
- Familiarity with cognitive and neuropsychological assessment tools and their operational applications
- Experience with extended reality (VR/AR) technologies or strong interest in XR development
- Experience designing integrated physical and cognitive activities
- Understanding of physiological monitoring techniques and performance metrics
- Interest in military psychology, operational performance, or national security applications
- Programming experience or familiarity with software development processes
- Research experience related to human performance optimization
