Innovator in Residence
INTRODUCTION:
Racine Public Library is a learning institution. It is expected that all employees be flexible, responsive to change, and take a leadership role when necessary. POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the Supervision of the Head of Digital Services and Innovation, this position will provide technical support and training to patrons. This position is a member of the Tech Team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Creates syllabi and leads classes on using different technology, including but not limited to WI’s Digital OverDrive and Libby, email basics, Windows basics, Internet searching, Social Media basics, Google/Microsoft Apps, Cloud Computing, PC and Network Security, etc.
- Provide one-on-one support to patrons on using technology.
- Assists with leading and teaching coding classes.
- Helps with STEM programming.
- Works with various technologies within the Innovation Lab such as, but not limited to, 3D printers, laser engraving machines, drones, electronics, and robotics.
ASSOCIATED DUTIES:
- Students will have the opportunity to learn IT support by working with the Library’s Computer Technician. Students will learn various skills on maintaining PCs, including but not limited to the following:
- Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software
- Installs peripherals for staff users
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal public library environment. This position may require intensive interaction with the public and local travel to outreach events and programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 16 years or older, currently in High School or High School Graduate
- Must be focused with in Information Technology, in high school or college
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Experience using Microsoft Office products
- Experience using operating systems including Windows, iOS, and Android
- Experience using Google Apps
- Ability to set priorities
- Ability to handle frequent changes in routines
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in a pleasant and businesslike manner
- Ability to teach in a group setting
- Ability to work with the public and other staff members politely and with respect
- Ability to work in a stressful environment
- Ability to work autonomously on routine and ongoing projects
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting up to 60 pounds of library materials, grasping, writing, reading, listening, keyboarding, talking, sitting, standing, walking, concentrating, climbing, crouching, balancing, speaking
EQUIPMENT USED:
Standard equipment used in a public library, including but not limited to: automated library computer system, work station, barcode scanner, removable or external storage devices, laptop computer, telephone, copy machine, A/V equipment, projector, camera, sound amplifying equipment, whiteboard, media screen, fax machine, microfilm reader-printer, cash register, calculator, paper cutter, laminator, change machine, charger, scanner, printer, e-reader, tablet, postage machine, book truck.
EXPECTED WORK SCHEDULE:
This position is part-time, up to 16 hours per week, with a specific schedule to be mutually agreed upon with the employee and supervisor. The hours for this position will mainly be in the afternoons and evenings.
