Salary: $4,299.00 - $5,783.00 Monthly

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources is looking for a bright, quick-thinking individual to fill the role of the Assistant Fire Unit Manager for the Straits Unit in the Olympic Region. This position is perfect for those who enjoy hazard-risk mitigation, collaborating with interagency peers, and using professional judgment to determine necessary resources during fire season. 

This individual will be expected to provide critical leadership in initial and extended attack fire suppression. Strong decision-making skills and a desire to take on responsibility are valued and encouraged. Responsibilities:
This position assists in providing leadership and oversight of the fire program in East Clallam and East Jefferson Counties for the Washington Department of Natural Resources. You will have the responsibility of hiring, training, and providing daily leadership for 1 Wildland Fire Operations Tech 2, 2 engine module leaders, and 9 firefighters.

Required Qualifications: 
 

  • Certified as an NWCG Single Resource Boss.
  • Certified NWCG Incident Commander Type 5 or higher.
  • Supervisory Experience.
  • Experience in agreement and contract negotiations.
  • Skills in team effectiveness principals with the ability to increase team effectiveness by focusing on situational awareness, communication skills, teamwork, task allocation, and decision-making within a framework of standard operating procedures.
  • Skills in employee empowerment.
  • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
