Natural Resources Recreation Manager

Elbe Recreation Manager, Natural Resource Specialist 3 (NRS3)

Salary: $4,865.00 - $6,539.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and supervises the following recreation programs for the unit: education and enforcement, trail and facility maintenance, recreation land use permitting (events, filming, search and rescue training, commercial recreation, navigation training courses, and various other land use licenses and authorizations).
  • Develops and maintains non-profit and community partnerships and public involvement/volunteers, to support the following unit programs: education and enforcement, recreation infrastructure maintenance, and land use authorizations.
  • Coordinates with the Unit Forest Manager and other staff to develop planning strategies to manage temporary closures and impacts on existing recreation resources as they relate to other forest management activities, such as timber sales, throughout the unit.
  • Determines business needs and supervises the Unit’s Recreation Maintenance Manager, Education and Enforcement Warden, (and seasonal reporting staff, DNR Recreation and Conservation Interns) while periodically coordinating recreation trail & facility maintenance efforts with the Unit’s Recreation Equipment Operator and a Washington Conservation Corps Crew.
  • Independently plans, prioritizes, coordinates, and implements the recreation maintenance, education and enforcement, and land use permitting elements for the unit. This includes applying for, securing, and managing grants to fund recreation maintenance, recreation development, and education and enforcement operations programs across the unit, while coordinating volunteer and non-profit groups on recreation signage, education, enforcement, trail and facility maintenance, and renovation projects.

Required Qualifications: 
 

  • A bachelor’s degree in public use, recreation, natural resources, forestry, or a closely related field AND two years of professional experience applying public use techniques to complex landscapes involving many interested parties;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of recreation management skills, tools, and methods including but not limited to, trail building, facility maintenance, use of power tools, and knowledge of types of recreational activities that occur in a forest setting.
  • Experience communicating effectively through writing and verbally in both small and large group settings. This includes being able to give professional oral presentations, professional-level written land action recommendations, and professional, respectful oral communication within the work group and agency.
  • Demonstrated regard for safety in all aspects of the working environment.
  • Fluent in Office 365 software including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with the principles and practices of recreation management, and how public involvement fits into the landscape.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed planning, writing, oral communication, and public presentation skills including the ability to present information for grants, community groups, and effective public contacts.
