Behavioral Health Practitioner (Multiple Programs)

This Behavioral Health Practitioner (Associate or Licensed) recruitment is to establish an eligible list for all Behavioral Health Programs.

This list may be used to fill Behavioral Health Practitioner (Associate or Licensed) vacancies as long as the list is active. As such, you are encouraged to apply even if a vacancy doesn’t exist in the program for which you are interested. 

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions which may occur while the list remains active.

In addition to the vacancies below, the Road to Recovery Program and the HOPE Program anticipates future vacancies and will be using this list to fill them.
 

Current Vacancies:

Forensic System of Care Position  

There is one (1) full-time fixed-term (ending on 10/23/2027) position in the Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Division of Health & Human Services, Jail Mental Health Service. 

The responsibilities involve screening, evaluation, treatment planning, and re-entry planning for individuals in the criminal justice system.    

This position is a part of the Jail Mental Health team, with a focus on re-entry planning for inmates with serious mental illnesses. Successful re-entry requires close collaboration with the Courts, criminal justice partners (probation, district attorney, local law enforcement), defense attorneys, family, and referrals and linkage to needed community care. Under the direction of the Jail Mental Health Unit Supervisor, the mental health practitioner will provide screening and brief needs assessment of inmates, referrals to community-based mental health and substance use treatment, assistance in obtaining housing and public benefits, and will follow up with the inmate once released to the community. The mental health practitioner will collaborate with multiple community agencies and hospitals, and will complete evaluations PC4011.6 and WIC5150 evaluations as needed, in order to facilitate admission to inpatient hospitals. The practitioner will attend regular re-entry and mental health team meetings in the Jail, and case consultation and placement meetings with community partners. The practitioner will be responsible for keeping electronic medical records current and meeting monthly standards of productivity. This position may require full background clearance by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.    

This position is required to work within Marin County Jail.

The fixed term position will be initially funded up to October 23, 2027. Please note, this position may end prior to October 23, 2027 if funding ceases or the work is complete. In addition, these positions may continue after October 23, 2027 if funding is renewed or extended. Per PMR 48.2, fixed term employees are not subject to Reduction in Force rights at the completion of the term.   

The position includes the below differential: 

  • 10% differential paid for jail assignment

STAR Position

There is one (1) full-time fixed-term (ending on 6/30/2026) position in the Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Division of Health & Human Services, STAR. Marin's Support and Treatment After Release (STAR) program is a full-service partnership providing culturally competent intensive, integrated services to mentally ill offenders and forensic clients. Operating in conjunction with the Mental Health Court, STAR Court is a multidisciplinary, multi-agency team that provides comprehensive assessment, individualized client-centered service planning and linkages to services. 

Under the direction of the Mental Health Unit Supervisor, the Behavioral Health Practitioner (BHP) provides intensive case management services to adults with serious mental illness who are involved with the criminal justice system and are participating in a mental health court.  In addition, the BHP provides on-going comprehensive clinical assessment and treatment planning, and acts as client advocate when clients are unable to advocate for themselves. The BHP provides clinical and case management services to the clients and works collaboratively with an intensive, multi-disciplinary team of highly skilled professionals, para-professionals, volunteers, and interns, and is responsible for keeping electronic medical records current and meeting monthly productivity standards. The role assists with providing diagnostic picture and treatment planning.

Our Highly Qualified Candidate: 

Forensic System of Care   

The ideal candidate for this position will have a behavioral health background with experience working adults who have a history of psychiatric hospitalization and jail/incarceration. The candidate will be comfortable working with diverse clients in both office and field-based environments, including visiting residential program, hospitals, and correctional settings. Written and oral communication skills should be excellent. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and be self-directed, as well as to work within an intensive multi-disciplinary team of highly skilled professionals. The candidate should have excellent judgment and decision-making skills. Knowledge of community resources and strong computer and documentation skills is expected. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of collaboration and will strive to have strong working relationships with team members, clients, families, volunteers, other Health & Human Services providers, criminal justice and community partners. In addition, the ideal candidate will be experienced working with a Trauma-informed approach, specifically with a population that has a history of adverse childhood experiences.

STAR

The ideal candidate has experience in providing clinical assessment and/or diagnosis of mental health disorders and will be comfortable working with diverse and vulnerable populations. Experience working with adult clients in a mental health setting who meet criteria for serious mental health/serious emotional disturbance is ideal. Written and oral communication skills should be excellent. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and be self-directed as well as work well with a team of highly skilled professionals. The candidate should have excellent judgment and decision-making skills, should be well versed in community resources, and have excellent computer and documentation skills in addition to excellent work habits. The ideal candidate will be able to work successfully in a high volume, fast paced work environment and be able to manage psychiatric needs and crisis. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of collaboration and will strive to have strong working relationships with team members, clients, families, volunteers, other Health & Human Services providers and community and legal partners.
