Part Time Child Protective Services Social Worker

Department: Social Services

Hiring Rate: $31.50 per hour

Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Description of Work:

  • These are temporary, part-time positions, that will be needed for an indeterminate duration. At the time that these positions are no longer required, the assignment will end, and could happen with little notice.
  • These positions offer flexibility in hours worked but will require a minimum of 10 hours per week.
  • The primary objective of these positions is to assist staff with ensuring a safe disposition of an existing backlog of CPS cases.
  • Assisting full-time CPS workers in ongoing cases, or other related tasks, may also be required for these positions

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their applications to complex casework, treatment, and investigation of abuse or neglect of children.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures of federal and state law related to child protection.
  • Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community.
  • Ability to prepare documentation such as written reports for the case records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish supportive relationships with staff, clients and professionals in the community

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

 Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling or a related human service field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Completion of NC Child Welfare Pre-Service Training
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
