Chalice Camp: Wizarding Wonders Staff

Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis 2025 CHALICE CAMP STAFF: WIZARDING WONDERS Job Description Board Approved 2025_01_30 Position Title: Chalice Camp: Wizarding Wonders Staff Reports to: Religious Educator Supervises: Camp activities and environment for participating children (grades TK-6) Status: Temporary, hourly (approximately 30-40 hours during camp week 7/14/25-7/18/25) Summary: Chalice Camp Staff are responsible for creating a fun, engaging, and safe environment for children and youth attending Chalice Camp: Wizarding Wonders. Staff members will lead and support themed activities, promote teamwork, and foster connections among campers. Staff should demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, and the ability to work collaboratively with others. While membership or identification with Unitarian Universalism is not required, staff should be supportive of UU principles and able to uphold them in interactions with campers and families. Staff may also assist in preparation and cleanup before and after camp activities. Functions: ● Create a welcoming, magical environment where campers feel safe, included, and excited to participate. ● Facilitate and support daily camp activities, including: ○ Spell-Casting Crafts ○ Potion-Making ○ Enchanted Games ○ Magical Creature Studies ○ Themed Storytelling and Skits ● Be present and on time for all assigned shifts, staying for their entirety. ● Provide supervision and guidance to campers during activities, meals, and transitions. ● Encourage positive behavior and teamwork among campers. ● Communicate with parents, campers, and staff in a kind, clear, and professional manner. ● Attend all required training sessions and staff meetings prior to camp. ● Assist with setup and cleanup of activities and common areas as needed. ● Address concerns or challenges promptly by bringing them to the attention of the Religious Educator. ● Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers at all times. Other Duties as Assigned: ● Assist with preparation and organization of supplies before camp begins. ● Communicate any additional needs (supplies, snacks, equipment) to the Religious Educator. ● Support other camp-related tasks as directed by the Religious Educator or camp leadership. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: ● Experience working with children and/or youth in an educational or recreational setting. ● Ability to lead and participate in fun, creative, and engaging activities. ● Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both children and adults. ● Ability to demonstrate kind, appropriate, and clear limits on children’s disruptive behavior. ● Basic knowledge of Unitarian Universalist principles and a willingness to support them in practice. ● Positive attitude, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working with children. ● Background Check and LiveScan completion (must be age 18 or older). ● Basic understanding of Mandatory Reporting and agreement to adhere to this policy. Preferred: ● Previous experience in UU Religious Education programs or summer camps. ● Creative or artistic skills related to crafting, storytelling, or performance. ● Professional experience in childcare, education, or recreational programming. ● CPR certification or ability to acquire it prior to the start of camp. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: ● Ability to actively engage with children and participate in activities both indoors and outdoors. ● Ability to lift and carry supplies or equipment as needed. ● Ability to adapt and safely respond to changes in environment, emotion, personnel, and routine. ● Requires work during weekdays, with some preparation time outside camp hours. Camp staff play a key role in making Chalice Camp: Wizarding Wonders a memorable and impactful experience for campers. Enthusiasm, creativity, and a love for working with children are essential qualities for this position.
