Environmental Resources Intern

Join us this summer as an Environmental Resources Intern and tackle some seriously cool projects this summer!


You'll be out in the field inspecting construction sites, surveying stormwater systems, and collecting water samples. You'll also get to put your tech skills to use with GPS and GIS mapping, help with vegetation assessments, and even inspire the next generation of environmental stewards at Ritter Farm Park. Plus, you'll play a key role in growing our Adopt-A-Drain program – because every little bit helps! This position has a tentative start date in May or June, 2025 and will be completed after 500 hours worked, or until a return to school. This position offers a flexible work schedule.
First review of applicants will begin on February 24, 2025.
 

Major Areas of Accountability

  • Assist in performing field inspections of active construction sites, municipal storm water basins and outfalls.
  • Assist in conducting field surveys, data collection, and inventory of municipal storm water basins and outfalls, and water quality data relating to lakes and streams utilizing GPS equipment/technology.
  • Provide support for vegetation assessments in restoration and developments as needed in many project areas across the city.
  • Support environmental education initiatives and activities at Ritter Farm Park.
  • Focus efforts on ways to increase participation in Adopt-A-Drain program. Create a plan to reach more residents and implement the plan.
  • Assist with lake water sample collections.
  • Utilize ESRI/ArcGIS and Cartegraph for work tasks, data entry, digitizing, and mapping projects.
  • Assist with public education and engagement activities related to stormwater management as well as waste reduction initiatives and sustainability.
  • Miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
     

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and various terrains.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and complete work accurately on a timely basis.
  • Flexible up to 40 hours per week.
