The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest summer intern in the Office Of Environmental Innovation (OEI)   

 

The Office of Environmental Innovation (OEI) intern position provides an opportunity for a college student to gain knowledge and experience that may lead to future recruitment when the student graduates. This position will work specifically with the Solid Waste Infrastructure Recycling Grant (SWIFR) and the Recycle Ohio Grant (ROG) programs.

 

Planning Unit

·      Support updating Ohio's state solid waste management plan, including attending meetings with stakeholders, researching state plans in other states, and researching reduction and recycling goals both nationally and internationally. These duties will involve communicating with representatives from various groups, such as other state agencies.

 

·      Assist with organizing discussion groups with representatives from Ohio solid waste management districts to obtain input into their challenges, opportunities, and, ideas for strategies to achieve Ohio's overall goal of diverting reusable/recyclable materials from disposal in landfills.

  

·      Obtaining and compiling recycling and reduction data, including contacting Ohio hospitals, prisons, material recovery facilities, and commercial businesses.

 

·      Review solid waste management district solid waste management plans to create a compendium of innovative and successful programs and best management practices that can be adapted by other solid waste management districts. These programs and best management practices may be used as a menu for a progressive strategy of programming to achieve goals of the state solid waste management plan.

 

Grants and Pollution Prevention

·       Supports the development of Ohio’s first comprehensive organics management plan, including attending meetings with stakeholders, researching organic plans and bench studies conducted by other entities and states. These duties will involve communicating with representatives from various groups such as other state agencies.

·       Identify organic materials and details regarding their generation, current collection and transportation, and processing capabilities to assist with oversight of the development of a comprehensive “roadmap” for all identifiable organic materials

·       Development of a connectivity strategy for food waste reduction and edible food rescue/recovery and reuse generators

·       Create a compilation of innovative and successful programs and best management practices that may be used as a menu for a progressive strategy to accelerate post-consumer materials management of organic materials.

·       Analyze ROG data from past grant cycles for trends and future considerations.

·       Evaluate Market Development and recycling trends/issues/technologies.

·       Create info graphic data sheets of the grant types over the past 5-years as a tool to visualize impacts of the grant program in Ohio.
