Lead Groundskeeper - Landscaping

This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.

 

The purpose of this position is to manage and maintain the Parks & Recreation area grounds within the City. 

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
  • Manages and installs landscaping of City grounds to include shrub trimming, flower planting, tree, and landscape installation, mulching and watering.
  • Supervises performance of full-time & part-time Groundskeepers and Groundskeepers/Maintenance workers.
  • Assigns daily tasks to assigned employees.  Review and approve timecards weekly.
  • Assists in scheduling weekly work hours for assigned employees.
  • Supervises and executes all phases of irrigation design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Assists with design and purchasing of landscape materials.
  • Supervises and conducts tree maintenance, removals, evaluations and maintains tree inventories.
  • Arranges for tree removals.
  • Supervises and conducts turf maintenance to include seeding, watering, aerating & fertilizing, weed and pest control measures with pesticide application.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment to include cleaning, maintaining and either repairing or having repaired assigned equipment whether powered or manual.
  • Cuts grass using power equipment and hand tools.
  • Assists with set-up for special events to ensure that the City’s grounds, pavilions, and facilities are clean and in good repair for patrons of special events.
  • Operates various manual hand tools to include but not limited to shovel, sledgehammer, rakes, pitchfork, and ax.
  • Operates power equipment to include but not limited to tractor, riding mower, chainsaw, weed eater, hedge trimmer, backpack blower, backpack sprayer and tiller.
  • Performs general mechanical, carpentry, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and light welding repairs.
  • May assist in budget planning and forecast purchasing for the department.
  • Ability to perform occasional overtime with some weekend and holiday work required.
  • Other work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience as a landscaper/groundskeeper or closely related field.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
