RWCC Conservation Intern

Thank you for your interest in applying for the Boone and Crockett Club's seasonal position of RWCC Conservation Intern! This position is in-person and very demanding, interns are employed on the 6,000 acre Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch and place-based conservation center (Rasmuson Wildlife Conservation Center) based near Dupuyer, MT. 

This temporary intern position will help plan, prepare, market, and conduct conservation education activities in line with the Boone and Crockett Club's vision, mission, and objectives and the Club's Conservation Education Program. Work will be conducted at the Elmer E. Rasmuson Wildlife Conservation Center (RWCC) on the Boone and Crockett Club's Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch (TRMR) 10-miles west of Dupuyer, Montana. Must be at least 16 years of age to apply.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for the following programmatic activities, which include but are not limited to

Ensure conservation education programs are focused primarily on the ecology of the Rocky Mountain Front, ethical fair chase hunting, natural resource conservation, and shared, sustainable, and ethical management and use of Montana's wildlife and their habitats with a specific focus on the coexistence of livestock and wildlife on the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch (TRMR).

Develop and prepare educational curricular materials for students and adults onsite and online.

Maintain ongoing social media pages by keeping them current and relevant to cultivate interest among current and new clients. Other focus areas may include business development, educational content development, maintenance and repair type work, hospitality, and outdoor recreation instruction with youth and adults. 

This position requires frequent hiking as we take students and campers in the field very frequently. Please ensure you have the ability and are prepared to hike in mountainous terrain with a backpack of gear (40+ lbs.) before arrival. We also frequently tent camp with our education program participants, so ensure this is an activity you are comfortable with. 

Other duties as assigned, especially those related to the upkeep of the education center and facilities, include housekeeping, landscaping, and other basic maintenance. The intern is encouraged to communicate with Boone and Crockett staff and university internship coordinators to facilitate better where and how they feel they will best serve the needs of the RWCC and its programs. (Business development, marketing, and all other areas of emphasis are welcome!)

Terms of Employment

The Conservation Programs Director and Manager will dually supervise this position. Education/Outreach experience and interest, especially in K-12, are preferred but not required.

This contract will cover the period agreed upon by the Conservation Programs Manager, University Students, and University staff. The agreed-upon schedule may change due to specific needs and weather conditions.

The primary workplace environment is a rural cattle ranch that is quite remote. The TRM Ranch is located in the heart of Grizzly Bear country and is home to diverse wildlife. Applicants must be comfortable around both domestic and wild animals. Friendly and personable people skills are also required!

The intern must be willing to work a flexible schedule with extended hours. Failure to complete the entire season will result in loss of reimbursement for days not worked.

Basic CPR and First Aid certifications are required before the start date.

As the job position takes place on a working ranch, operating manual transmission vehicles, towing trailers, operating ATVs, and carrying bear-deterrent pepper spray are frequently utilized skills. Any similar skills you acquire may be useful but are not required.
 

Knowledge of or ability to acquire skills in safe firearms handling and operation, big game hunting, wildlife and plant identification, wilderness skills, and ethics, and any other outdoor and natural resource conservation skills (e.g., fly-fishing, hiking, camping, bird-watching, astronomy, etc.) are highly recommended.

Housing and some meals can be provided. Wages depend on experience. The Work Calendar and additional housing, meals, and vehicle availability will be discussed with the successful applicant(s).

As the position requires working with our Outdoor Adventure Camps, you must complete a background check and driving record check upon hire. 

The approximate start date is June 1, 2025, and approximate end date is August 17, 2025. These dates are flexible as academic schedules may allow . Please communicate schedule conflicts with hiring staff to ensure we can accommodate arrival/departure dates.
