About the Position
To perform maintenance activities and operate equipment in the construction or maintenance of bridges and roadways, and related projects.
About the Division
The Road Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the County transportation system including some state highways and city streets under contract with Lane County. Although the majority of equipment and employees in Road Maintenance are based at the Delta Complex, satellite shops are located near Cottage Grove, Dexter, Veneta, and Florence. A crew and equipment are assigned to each Road Maintenance Zone. The Bridge Projects Crew, Sign Shop, and Vegetation Crew are headquartered at Delta and work throughout the County.

Schedule: Monday - Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Shifts change per operational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Training:
- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Experience:
- Two years of experience in the operation of a variety of medium road maintenance and construction equipment, including experience performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Licensing Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Oregon Class A CDL, with required endorsements and medical card. A valid Oregon Class A CDL with a fifth wheel restriction is allowed for this classification.
SUMMARY OF COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE INFORMATION:
- Due to Department of Transportation requirements for those currently holding Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDLs), all candidates referred for interview for positions requiring CDLs will be asked to sign a consent to allow their former employers to disclose to Lane County Department of Public Works alcohol and drug related information for the past 3 years. This information will ONLY be requested after a conditional offer of employment has been extended.
Also, per 49 CFR 391.21(d), we wish to inform you that the information you provide regarding your previous employers and employment for the past 3 years may be used, and your employers of the past 3 years will be contacted, in order to investigate your safety performance history information as required by 49 CFR 391.23, (d) and (e). You are hereby notified that you have due process rights as specified in 40 CFR 291.23(i) regarding any information received as a result of these investigations.
Special Requirements:
- Employees in this classification are required to pass a pre-employment drug test, and to participate in an on-going drug testing program, including, but not limited to, random testing according to requirements of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

- This position requires strenuous physical labor in sometimes adverse weather conditions.
