Diabetes and Other Chronic Diseases Section Manager
This position directs the work of professional staff and oversees the daily operations of the Diabetes and Other Chronic Diseases (DOCD) Section. The Section is comprised of the following programs: Diabetes, Arthritis, Asthma, Disability Health, Kidney Disease, Long COVID, and other emerging health conditions. The position is responsible for: 1) Directing and overseeing the staff responsible for statewide programming, public health surveillance, evaluation, and policy and environmental change efforts that support health and wellbeing; 2) Planning and managing the DOCD Section’s budget and adherence to fiscal requirements and guidelines; 3) Advancing and integrating community engagement and health equity in DOCD Section programming; 4) Building and maintaining strategic relationships with federal, state, local partners, and community-based organizations; 5) Collaborating and coordinating efforts with internal and external partners to address DOCDs; 6) Assisting the DCDIC Director with the planning and management of division work, as needed.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Preferred Education: Master’s degree in public health or health related field.
Experience
Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.
Preferred Experience: Two years’ experience in health program development, consultation, or administration at the Public Health Consultant 12/13 Level.
Alternate Education and Experience
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 320 S. Walnut St., Elliott-Larsen Building, Lansing, MI 48933. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.
Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:
- A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
- A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
- Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
