Job Summary:
This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Education Program Assistant 1 position for the Division of Extension and Engagement’s Family and Community Health Program at Oregon State University (OSU ). This position is located n Central Point, Oregon.
Due to funding, OSU will not sponsor immigration work authorization for this position (e.g. H-1B, etc.).
This Education Program Assistant 1 (EPA1) position works with the SNAP -ED and EFNEP teams serving Jackson County and is based at the OSU Extension Service office in Central Point, Oregon. This position is with the Division of Extension and Engagement’s (division) Extension Family and Community Health (FCH ) program. This position has a priority designation for working with Spanish speaking audiences through the utilization of bilingual/bi-literate skills.
The EPA1 will:
• Offer programs and classes to Spanish and English-speaking audiences that promote healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles to individuals and families.
• Work with community partners like schools, food banks and pantries, and other non-profit organizations. This will require driving/travel to various county sites to deliver programming.
• Be part of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP -Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP ) Program teams, supervised by the SNAP -Ed/FCH Unit Manager.
This EPA1 assists the Managing Faculty Member with designing, developing, maintaining and/or carrying out educational programming and outreach activities to serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations.
The division has built the capacity and expectation for employees to use digital communications and technologies in the modern-day workplace. This EPA1 works with the Managing Faculty Member to create opportunities to enhance access, inclusion, and relevant best practices, using digital communications and technologies where appropriate.
About Nutrition Education Programs (SNAP -Ed and EFNEP ): The Education Program Assistant 1 position is part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP -Ed) Program, a federally funded nutrition education program targeting SNAP eligible audiences, and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP ), a federal nutrition education program targeting families with young children. Interventions include hands-on learner-centered direct education in both programs, as well as community-based work related to policy, systems, and environmental change as part of SNAP -Ed. Programs are designed to promote healthy eating habits and a physically active lifestyle. Funding is provided in part by USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP ) through a contract with Oregon Department of Human Services, and through EFNEP federal funds.

Key Responsibilities
This Education Program Assistant will deliver non-credit programming to Spanish and English-speaking audiences.
60% Program Delivery and Implementation – Delivers lessons and programs (in Spanish and English) promoting healthy food choices and encouraging physical activity in a variety of community settings, including schools
Nutrition Education Delivery:
Delivers pre-approved non-credit curriculum/programs (in Spanish and English) in an inclusive and culturally responsible manner to a broad and diverse audience, for managing food resources, making/preparing healthy food choices, encouraging physical activity, plant science/gardening and handling food safely in a variety of community settings, including schools. This will require driving/travel to various county sites to deliver programming. Uses OSU Extension Service/SNAP -Ed/EFNEP approved curricula, materials and information in a hybrid (virtual/in person) format.
Promotes programs and resources in a way that reaches audiences from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and cultural identities.
Follows OSU and division brand guidelines, digital publishing standards and digital contact management data integrity practices for programmatic communications, marketing and engagement.
Policy, System, Environmental Change:
Works with FCH Managing Faculty Member and community partners to identify areas for policy, system, and environmental change and implement OSU /SNAP -Ed preapproved processes that will influence change within the community.
Works as part of a team to conduct nutrition and physical activity needs assessments within the community.
Works as part of a team to implement strategies/interventions in the school/community environment that support and encourage healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles, such as implementing the Food Hero campaign strategies.
Participates actively in school and/or community committees/coalitions to encourage healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles, as directed by Managing Faculty Member.
Uses technology as a tool to increase the reach and impact of program delivery.
Collaborates with Managing Faculty Member to use technology to develop marketing strategies and utilize appropriate print and digital tools to reach intended audience segments.
Informs supervisors and program designers about community cultural norms and best ways to reach broad and diverse audiences with different backgrounds.
Provides trainings to partners/community with approved non-credit curriculums.
20% Nutrition Education — Planning, Preparing, and Evaluating – Works with Nutrition Education team on plans, preparations and evaluation of educational programs and events.
Works with faculty/staff on marketing and recruitment for group/class set up and nutrition topics/lessons with site contact. Assists in preparation and ordering of instructional supplies needed for classes. Assists in assembling materials needed for classes and other nutrition education activities. Purchases appropriate materials for educational activities, including ingredients for food preparation and tasting.
Participates in evaluation of program effectiveness.
Contributes positively to team projects in SNAP -Ed, EFNEP and the OSU Extension Service in the County.
Engages community partners and community members in a culturally responsive manner.
Assists the Managing Faculty Member with creating accessible and inclusive environments that make space for a range of learner needs and provide reasonable accommodations.
Assists the Managing Faculty Member with enhancing access, inclusion, and relevant best practices and include these activities in the quarterly and annual reports.
10% Nutrition Education Program Records – Submits and maintains all applicable program reports and documentation.
Record-keeping – Maintains class, meeting, and assessment records, attendance records, evaluation data, paperwork; verifies for accuracy; submits all required records upon completion of classes, meetings, and assessments for state and federal reporting; submits quarterly success stories -“Stories from the Field”; reports activities and their impacts into the Extension’s reporting system, coordinating with their managing faculty member; processes reimbursements for personal vehicle mileage for work travel and supplies purchased; and provides other data/statistical information/records as requested.
10% Meetings & Trainings and Other Duties Attends EFNEP and SNAP -Ed meetings and trainings.
Participates in relevant statewide/regional conferences, workshops, meetings and trainings.
Attends Extension staff meetings and participates in regional/state OSU Extension Service activities, as directed.
Attends training opportunities to build basic knowledge and consistent skills to use digital communications, marketing and engagement technologies relevant to position duties.
Completes the division’s civil rights training session(s) and assists the Managing Faculty Member with coordinating the completion by volunteers.
Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
What We Would Like You to Have
• Two years’ experience with delivering a curriculum in a youth group setting.
• Experience with SNAP -Ed or program partners (such as DHS , WIC , schools or other agencies).
• Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including websites, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Access to a vehicle is necessary as duties will require travel/driving to various sites in Jackson County to deliver non-credit programs and transporting curriculum materials. Flexibility to perform work in a variety of office and work settings. Evenings and weekends may be required based on programming needs, coordinating with supervisor to adapt work schedule to address community programming needs.
