English Language Arts Teacher – Long Term Substitute

Pay Grade: $150/day
Duration: Spring 2025 Semester
Job Summary: Work with students to develop the skills of listening, thinking, speaking, reading and writing in students that are fundamental to effective communication and literature of all types; to motivate students to read widely for information and recreation; to develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media; to discover develop special talents of students in the field of Language Arts.
Qualifications:
- State of Michigan Teacher Certification preferred
- BA or BX endorsement preferred
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to successfully educate students on ELA state and district standards.
- Plan and deliver effective instruction aligned with district-provided curriculum.
- Implement strategies to enhance listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
- Assess students' proficiency levels and adapt instruction accordingly.
- Select books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students, maintain required inventory records.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment.
- Foster respect and understanding among students of all backgrounds.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students as needed.
- Administer assessments to measure students' proficiency and track their progress over time.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress to parents/guardians.
- Establish and maintain a positive and structured classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Attend staff meetings and collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional strategies.
- Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions based on a variety of mass media and classical and contemporary literature.
- Adhere to FERPA regulations and district policy when working with confidential data.
- Consistent and reliable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust/focus. Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
Terms of Employment:
