Quality Transportation Services, Inc., (QTS) located in Mechanicsville VA, has an opening for a Rail Fleet Specialist for our growing business, an energetic, integrated Rail Logistics company in the Rail Logistics Sector. Rail is the safest, most economical, and most environmentally-friendly form of transporting commodities in North America. SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Rail Fleet Specialist (RFS) plays an important role in bringing all of the QTS Fleet products and services together and works to manage the QTS-Client relationship. This service, ensures that QTS resources and service offerings are aligned properly with the customer’s goals and expectations. The QTS Rail Fleet Specialist serves as a facilitator, marshalling resources inside of QTS, at the customer, and the contract repair shops to work in tandem to achieve success.

The Rail Fleet Specialist (RFS) acts as the primary point of contact for all customer service inquiries and requests for their assigned accounts. These service requests involve the entire shopping process and management of rail equipment. The RFS helps the customer gets the most out of customer owned rail equipment, and drives cost out of the supply chain by minimizing down time and other issues. 

 

KEY RAIL FLEET RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To build positive relationships with the customers, railroads, repair shops, and support partners
  • To assess the customer’s service issues throughout the Rail Fleet environments (North America)
  • To prioritize and follow-up on customer service requirements with the appropriate party responsible
  • To collaborate politely and professionally with Contract Repair Shops concerning problem railcars and resolve delays or other repair deviations to their expected maintenance plan. 
  • To ensure the customer is well-informed of any problem cars and suggest/provide corrective plans of action.
  • To Learn current and new technical skills to help the customer stay competitive and to help us stay contemporary
  • To maintain orderly records of all repair work completed, including problem logs, shop logs, and inspection reports

 

KEY PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To learn to be proficient in dealing with data, how to analyze it, and how to use it.
    • This includes reporting and auditing repair bills, rental invoices, and other documents
    • Importing and updating Regulatory, lease, and mechanical data
  • To assist and communicate with customers about Fleet statuses, and other strategic planning
  • To communicate and interact on behalf of the customer with Contract Repair Shop and support partners
  • To learn how to use and analyze proprietary business applications and third-party tools
  • To be adaptable to various surprises and responsibilities that can come along in the rail industry
  • To keep an open mind and to be willing to do new things
  • To report resource needs and challenges on an as-needed basis
  • To embrace that the customers want people who work like they do. Our hours are Monday thru Friday, 8am – 5pm at 8235 Meadowbridge Rd, Mechanicsville, VA.

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

An ideal candidate must be disciplined and demonstrate an aptitude for learning new business processes. A candidate must be comfortable in a well-paced team environment. A candidate must be able to exercise critical thinking and humility, communicate clearly in writing and in speech, and possess positive personal relationship skills.

  • 4-year college bachelor’s degree in any field – Required
    • Or a relevant Technical Degree from an accredited Technical School
  • 1-3 years’ experience in customer service, logistics, or mechanical knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • 1 year of Microsoft Excel and Pivot Table experience – Required
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Adaptable to change
  • Rail experience is a plus
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish or French speaking is a plus
  • Knowledge of DOT/AAR regulations – Plus
