English Language Learning Tutor
Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas’ English Language Learning Programs offers English language classes to eligible refugees and asylees, many of whom are within their first year in the United States. The purpose of the English Language Learning Programs are to provide high-quality language instruction in order that students can successfully obtain and maintain jobs and adjust to culture.
The ELL traditional tutor will focus primarily on leading lessons based on Intercambio’s Confidence and Connections curriculum. Tutors will do this either one-on-one with a student or lead a small group of 3-5 students. Locations for tutoring can take place in the client’s home, an apartment complex’s leasing office, a local library, or elsewhere, depending on the tutor’s preference and the student’s ability.
This is an especially good opportunity for those pursuing their TESOL certification or an education field. Please note: One does not need to be Catholic to volunteer with Catholic Charities, and one does not need to know the student's language. All classes are immersion-based.
