Special Education Assistant

 

 

Position: Special Education Assistant

Building: Alaiedon Elementary / Mason Public Schools / In-Person

Reports to: Special Education Director

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children


Qualifications Desired:

  • Associate degree in education
  • Experience with elementary students 


Job Description:

  • Work with students in a general education or special education classroom setting
  • Assisting students with health care plans
  • Provide general classroom support 
  • Individual tutoring in academics and social skills
  • Directing/redirecting attention
  • Finding, modifying, preparing materials
  • Administering formal behavior management procedures
  • Assisting/monitoring moving around the building
  • Assist with peer support activities
  • Assisting students with personal hygiene activities and lifting of students


Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking. 
  • The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the school day.
  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of some travel to other schools or field trip locations.

 
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours weekly, school year schedule of August to June annually. 

Benefits: Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, Retirement, and Holidays per the bargaining unit agreement

Wage: $15.08 hourly.  Annual raises for the first five years, then every 5 years per the bargaining agreement.
