Summer Intern - Biologics Research
Overview
The Insmed Summer Internship Program gives students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a corporate environment in the pharmaceutical industry, receive mentoring from highly skilled professionals, and work on dynamic team projects. Our 2025 Summer Intern program is a full-time (40 hours per week), 12-week paid internship. The internship may present opportunities for rotational assignments within the function, and the intern will be assigned goals and objectives that will support the strategic business plan of the company.
For the Summer Intern – Biologics Research position Insmed is seeking a biologist or biotechnologist to support discovery and molecular engineering campaigns focused on innovative biotherapies for rare diseases. The successful candidate will participate in diverse aspects of biotherapeutic discovery, optimization, and preclinical development.
Responsibilities
- Develop and steward a summer project designed in collaboration with Insmed scientists to develop your existing molecular skills and contribute valuable data in the area of AAV capsid engineering for Gene Therapy delivery.
- Depending on the interests of the applicant, aspects of AAV capsid engineering could include: variant library construction, variant virus production and/or sequencing "readout" of directed evolution experiments.
- Conduct bench experiments on-site most weekdays
Qualifications:
- PhD or MS with equivalent experience in cell biology, virology, molecular biology, bioengineering, or related field.
- Experience with viruses or viral vectors required; experience with AAV vectors strongly preferred
- Familiarity with viral vector engineering for gene therapy applications strongly preferred
- Experience with molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology required
- Specific experience with an NGS platform technology highly advantageous
- Hands on experience with transfection, transduction, viral purification, ultracentrifugation, viral titration, qPCR, ddPCR required
- Hands-on experience with flow cytometry, neutralization assays and other cell-based functional assays encouraged
- Proven track record in experimental methods development, including experimental design, execution, and data analysis and interpretation
- Enthusiasm to develop and steward a project designed in collaboration with Insmed Scientists to develop existing skills and contribute valuable data to the program
- Attention to detail and record-keeping; willingness to re-run inadequate experiments and learn and adapt techniques accordingly
Salary Range
$25 - $35 an hour
Compensation & Benefits
Eligible for paid company holidays during the intern program.
