Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation, and service program serving individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, and multidisabled and their families. ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role to ensure that AIDB’s culture is reinforced and that employees feel connected, recognized and proud to be a part of the company. You will play a vital role in the lives of our consumers and be a part of the miracles that happen every day at AIDB. This will be accomplished by demonstrating flexibility, positive attitude and professional maturity. 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must hold an Alabama Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in music education.

                                                         OR 

     Must obtain certification from the Alabama State Department Education within 6 months of hire    date. 

  • Must be certified in Visual Impairment. 

                                                 OR

 Must obtain Visual Impairment Certification within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.

  • Must be able to teach woodwind, brass, percussion instruments and vocal music.
  • Must become proficient in grade one Braille and Braille music within thirty-six (36) months.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sponsor eligible students for competitions such as solo and ensemble festivals.
  • Participate in All County Band competition.
  • Prepare an ensemble to participate in the SCASB performing arts program. 
  • Prepare the band for both a fall and spring concert.
  • Prepare students for choral events.
  • Prepare Individual Education Plans and cooperate in the implementation.
  • Review and update IEP files.
  • Maintain required records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Assess classroom/instructional needs, prepare classroom/instructional supply and equipment orders.
  • Maintain daily attendance records.
  • Become familiar with and observe all AIDB policies and procedures.
  • Work and cooperate with staff members, and support personnel and administration to provide for the welfare and best interests of the students.
  • Attend faculty and committee meetings.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in behavior and dress in such a manner that sets a good example for students.
  • Maintain an inventory and care of band uniforms, instruments, and equipment.
  • Attend and assist with extra-curricular activities by supporting clubs, classes, and student activities as a spectator, sponsor etc.
  • Must be to work a flexible schedule.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

 

Additional Responsibilities ($5000 stipend):

  • Prepare the band to march at all ASD home football games.
  • Participate in National Veteran’s Day Parade as well as local parades
  • Submit applications to nationally known parades at least once every two years.
  • Conduct a yearly summer band camp.
  • Maintain a drumline for performances at pep rallies, homecoming, wrestling matches, and ASD basketball games.
  • Travel (after school and weekends if necessary) for activities as director of solo and ensemble instrumental performing groups.

SALARY: SALARY: $46,812 – $73,640 Scale lC Rank 2T (BS-Class B)

                             $54,870 – $84,580 Scale lC Rank 1T (MA-Class A)

                                   $58,413 – $89,382 Scale lC Rank AA (AA Certification)

                                          (187) Days

This is an exempt position and is not subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
