Terminal Generalist

TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico, a leader in safe and reliable service to Puerto Rico, is seeking a Terminal Generalist to join the team at our Jacksonville, FL terminal office.

 

In this position you will:

be accountable for accurate documentation, loading, discharging, receiving, and dispatching cargo and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Receive, greet, and direct customers and visitors as needed at the TOTE terminal in a face-to-face environment.
  • Facilitate proper delivery of cargo ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements based on Customer Service releases.
  • Update hazardous information in Terminal Operating System (TOS) and release Hazardous cargo to the vessels in compliance with all Hazmat regulations and procedures.
  • Handle refrigerated container temperature discrepancies.
  • Communicate with governmental agencies for inspections and hold/ releases and schedule terminal working hours with Customs & Border Patrol if necessary.
  • Handle inbound cargo in & out of terminal and validate forms with Customs.
  • Collect /process credit card payments from customers on terminal.
  • Troubleshoot Gate and Resolution Center issues/ paperwork discrepancies to ensure cargo flows through the terminal in a timely manner.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate, up to date UIIA trucker database in TOS.
  • Assist in handling customer’s claims for autos.
  • Coordinate and assign equipment for Yard Transfers and update the system accordingly.
  • Understanding and producing of the following reports and requests:  Dangerous Cargo Manifest Report, container Hot Hatch, cargo Did not Sail, cargo Final reports, Port Authority wharfage, Booked vs Actual, Terminal Priority, Trucker Turn Time, etc.
  • Manage terminal services vendors and code vendor invoices. 
  • Receive and forward to proper departments import forms that require customs validation, hold data from governmental agencies, and to notify port personnel on special handling (ex. Flat racks, tanks, vehicle removal from containers, USDA holds, special releases for shipments that have to go off terminal for inspections.)
  • Assist management in effective operation of the cargo terminal by assisting with projects on terminal as needed. 

 

 

 

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Associate degree or above in related field or related equivalent work experience (Preferred)
  • Hazardous certified and VSO/ FSO, CTL, CPE designation (Preferred)
  • Any certifications or training related to process improvement is a plus, such as Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation related business (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, typing, and general computer/ internet skills (Required)
  • Bilingual English/ Spanish (Preferred)
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on greater responsibilities, project management skills a plus.
  • Attention to detail and ability to problem solve a must.
