The sixth district encompasses 6 counties in Iowa (Jones, Johnson, Linn, Iowa, Tama and Benton). The Accountant 3 (Supervisor) is responsible for the districts operating budget and financial statements, annual GAAP reporting and other year end processes, maintaining recordkeeping of the districts fixed assets and supervision of the accounting and other personnel within the district.  Duties include the following: 

  • Monitors the operating budget with deep understanding of the needs and priorities of the district. 
  • Prepares monthly financial statements, cost reports and other financial documents for the districts management team and Department of Corrections central office.
  • Forecasts revenues and expenses with precision necessary to facilitate proactive operational decision making. 
  • Creates and enters journal entries, adjusting entries and ensures that monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements are accurate.
  • Provides budget information and financial statements to the districts management team.
  • Responsible for the annual audit.
  • Responsible for the district inventory control and maintenance of fixed assets. 
  • Oversight of various grants and leased buildings and/or equipment. 
  • Supervision of accounting and other personnel of the district. 
  • Must have strong computer skills.
