Congressional Relations Intern

The Office of Congressional Relations at the Wilson Center seeks an energetic and self-motivated student or recent graduate interested in Congress, public policy, and foreign affairs. Consistently ranked as one of the top think tanks in the world, the Wilson Center provides opportunities for hands on experience working on a wide range of issues that impact today’s public policy debates. Congressional Relations produces events, podcasts and briefings for congressional staff and Members of Congress, as well as producing informational documents that staffers on Capitol Hill utilize to create informed policies.

This internship will provide opportunities for the selected candidate to assist the Office of Congressional Relations in various capacities. This will provide ample opportunities to increase knowledge of a wide-range of policy issues, learn from the world's leading experts on foreign affairs, learn valuable skills, and increase professional development-- all within a fun, inclusive, and idea-loving team! 

** Please Note: We prioritize candidates who have previous experience interning on Capitol Hill.

Duties may include:

  • Work with the Congressional Relations department to strategize outreach to Capitol Hill in order to maximize the visibility of Wilson Center programs and research
  • Assist staff in preparing for our Foreign Policy Fellowship Program sessions and events, including managing our alumni lists, RSVPs, and in-person setup
  • Assist staff in preparing for other events such as our Masterclasses, private briefings, and private meetings etc.
  • Assist in preparing research material for the Wilson Center's Need to Know podcast
  • Help in the production of targeted lists and outreach
  • Administrative and other duties as assigned

Eligibility Requirements

Interns must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate degree program, a recent graduate (within one calendar year of internship start date), and/or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program (within the next year). 

International students who hold a valid F-1 or J-1 visa and appropriate work authorization are eligible. All international students must obtain written permission from their Designated School Official or Responsible Visa Officer at their university stating that they are in valid immigration status and eligible to do an internship at the Center. The Wilson Center is an equal opportunity employer and follows equal opportunity employment guidelines in the selection of its interns.

Internship Terms

Internships are between January 13,  2024 and May 2024, based upon agreement between the applicant and the Congressional Relations staff.

The position will be asked to physically be in Washington, D.C., but there will be a few opportunities to occasionally work from home.
