Description

The Intake Counselor is responsible for performing intake and patient care activities as directed by the attending Clinical Director and Intake Supervisor. The Intake Counselor also acts as a representative of treatment staff and observes all patient activity, maintains a visible presence of the patients at the treatment center and at outside activities.  They will also circulate throughout the treatment center and alert to fire and safety hazards. The Intake Counselor is responsible for assisting in the daily therapeutic program for patients and for various administrative duties.  They will also complete tasks assigned by other departmental staff, as deemed appropriate. Demonstrates knowledge of chemical dependency and addictions and utilizes knowledge and skills to access and meet the patient’s treatment needs and requirements.

  • Documents as required in patient chart.
  • Arranges transportation, when needed.
  • Orients new patients to the facility.
  • Instructs and confirms the company’s rules/ regulations to new admissions and orients new patients to the facility.
  • Conducts motivational and/or educational groups as directed by the Clinical Director and completes subsequent documentation in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work as a team member, demonstrating maturity and objectivity under stress, and demonstrates good communication skills.
  • Performs in a professional manner and role models positive mental health and/or recovery maintenance.
  • Maintains understanding of patient’s rights per the Mental Health Code, upholds patient’s rights, reports abuse of patients’ rights immediately and assists patients with filing complaints, as needed.
  • Participates in obtaining the patient’s informed consent for care coordination, procedures, treatments, and research, as appropriate.
  • Acts decisively and effectively in managing staff, patients, and other employees during emergency situation.
  • Completes intake assessments as needed and assesses for prospective patient’s appropriateness for treatment.
  • Obtains and submits all pertinent information for processing insurance verifications, approvals, and/or ability to pay.
  • Maintains ongoing telephone conversations with patient and family under the direction of the Clinical Director
  • Conducts new patient orientation/admissions and instructs new patients in completing new admission packet.
  • Under supervision of the Clinical Director, conducts patient assessments and completes follow up phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Performs all other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Education

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a social services field

Preferred: CADC-M, CADC, CAADC, CCJP-R, CCDP – Bachelor's level only, CCDP-D OR CADC-Development Plan

Experience

A minimum of 2 years experience in chemical dependency setting.

Licensure/Certification

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a social services field

Preferred: CADC-M, CADC, CAADC, CCJP-R, CCDP – Bachelor's level only, CCDP-D OR CADC-Development Plan

Preferred: Current CPR certification

Knowledge and Training Required at Time of Hire

  • Knowledge of the Principles and Practices of the discipline.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards.
  • Demonstrates Proficiency in Communication & Written skills.
  • Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Client Confidentiality laws.
  • Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Violence.

Security Measure and Clearance

State and Federal Background Check, Education verification, prior employment verification, pre-employment drug screen and physical, and License Verification.

COVID-19 vaccination status requested upon hire.
