Preschool Special Needs Teacher

Position: Preschool Special Needs Teacher

Reports To: Building Principal

Salary Schedule / Grade: Refer to DEA Salary Schedule

F.L.S.A Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this multi-age Teacher will evaluate children’s skills and functional capabilities, and modify lesson plans to meet individual needs. This teacher will also work on social skills to help children enter an integrated learning environment.

Fully licensed candidates eligible for $5,000 bonus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates differentiated lesson plans to meet all educational needs.
  • Use student data from formative and summative assessments to plan instructional delivery.
  • Plans, writes, and maintains IEPS.
  • Completes all State required paperwork for Preschool students.
  • Facilitates State mandated assessments.
  • Must be able to work as part of a teaching team with an educational paraprofessional.
  • Maintains communication with parents/guardians.
  • Holds parent orientations, parent-teacher conferences, and child health, development, education, and engagement sessions with parents.
  • Utilize reflective practices to improve instructional approaches and adapt to changes in learning methods.
  • Implement the District’s classroom management strategies and program.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, and other staff
  • Attend Staff meetings and professional development activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Must hold P-3 or P-5 Teaching license as well as Preschool Intervention Specialist license
  • Experience working in urban education
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and intervention strategies
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and or child development principles
  • Ability and willingness to utilize technology in the enhancement of student learning

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

  • Work is performed in a classroom setting
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
  • Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
  • Periodic travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
