Waters has established a new state of the art lab located at the Science, Technology and Advanced Research Campus of University of Delaware. A team anchored in Delaware will uncover new trends and opportunities in next generation bioprocess solutions and will have access to the latest technology in small-scale as well as large scale bioreactors and analytical instruments. Our mission is to tackle the most significant challenges faced by the biopharmaceutical industry through collaborative efforts across academia and industry. We focus on developing cutting-edge technology for the analytical characterization of manufacturing processes related to biologics and novel modalities. Our ultra-modern facility provides an environment where scientists, customers, and collaborators can drive productivity and progress together. This endeavor will include dynamic collaborations with the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), Universities, and companies worldwide. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of chemists, data scientists, sensory experts, and bioprocess engineers. Your efforts will have a direct impact on new products from Waters.

This role will report to the Global Research Organization at Waters.
Responsibilities
The meaningful work you will be asked to do:
• Protein Characterization: Work closely with cell culture scientists to develop bioanalytical characterization tools. Evaluate protein stability, aggregation, and degradation during production. Contribute to the development of robust characterization strategies.
• Chromatography: Apply chromatographic principles to analyze complex samples, including proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, and small molecules. Optimize chromatographic separations for resolution, and sensitivity. Troubleshoot chromatographic systems and method development challenges.
• Drive prototype technology and provide proof of concept experimental evaluations on process sampling, analysis and data interpretation and analysis. Contribute to the development of process analytical technology for bioprocess monitoring and control.
• Develop a deep understanding of customer needs and feed this information to develop next generation scientific instrumentation.
• Identify, champion, and develop new scientific ideas whilst advising on existing research and development activities.
Qualifications
Required Skills
• Ph.D. in Analytical Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biochemistry or Biomedical Engineering with 5 years of industry experience in Biochemistry, or a related field or Master’s with 8 years of experience.
• Hands-on experience and technical expertise and leadership in chromatography and protein characterization. Design and execute experiments related to upstream bioprocess development.
• Proven practical experience using chromatography HPLC methods (including RP, SEC, IEX etc.) for biologics process development, electrophoresis, sensor-based technologies other related techniques. Ability to interpret chromatographic results and provide actionable insights.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent organizational, collaborative and networking skills. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated with a demonstrated ability to work on research projects.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and significant evidence of building good working relationships with collaborators, including biologists and/or biomedical researchers.
• Travel to our world headquarters in Massachusetts and customer visits are required.
Preferred Skills
• Familiarity with upstream bioprocess development and protein production workflows.
• Experience with Waters Empower chromatography software
• Ability to perform design of experiments (DOE)
