Emergency Mental Health Jail Clinician (LMSW, LLP, LPC)

What You Will Be Doing
Working as an Emergency Mental Health Jail Clinician, you will be responsible for completing screenings on individuals while they are incarcerated in the Kalamazoo County Jail. These screenings including suicide risk assessments, evaluation for hospitalization or other crisis services, planning and coordinating reentry services from the jail to the community, and coordinating services with primary human service providers as well as criminal justice professionals. The candidate will work primarily in the Kalamazoo County Jail and occasionally in emergency settings including emergency rooms, crisis housing, homeless shelters as well as other community-based settings. The candidate must be willing to work varying hours – requiring some night and weekend hours. The candidate must also be well versed in Recovery Philosophy and application of Peer Supportive Systems of care.
What We Require
Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field. Minimum of two years’ experience in clinical settings working with target population and extensive knowledge of the DSM IV diagnostic criteria, co-occurring disorders, substance use disorders, evidence-based and promising practice interventions, and familiarity with psychotropic medications, experience with involuntary hospitalization procedures and the ability to work in a fast paced environment. Lived experiences with behavioral health issues are desired. Advanced computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, database management and e-mail. Required licenses: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Limited License Psychologist (LLP), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Registered Nurse (RN) and valid Michigan Motor Vehicle Operator’s license. Will consider limited licensure with the ability to obtain full licensure within 9 months of hire. You will also be required to pass a security clearance check to access the jail and maintain a Criminal Justice Information Security Certification.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Physical Efforts – Job demands include prolonged sitting and standing as appropriate. May occasionally require light lifting up to 25 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending as appropriate. Requires coordination of hands and/or eye/hand/foot.
Working Conditions – Office environment with noise from computers, copy machine, and telephones. Use of computer screen for periods in excess of 30 minutes at a time. Possible eyestrain from extended periods of viewing computer screen. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and parasites. Travel throughout the Kalamazoo area is required.
