GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking to hire a contract Fisheries Biologist to coordinate and supervise a one-year creel survey to measure angler use and generate Walleye exploitation estimates at Glendo Reservoir in east-central Wyoming. This position will be responsible for conducting angler interviews to collect harvest data, measuring angler-harvested fish, maintaining time-lapse cameras at boat ramps, data entry and quality control checks, supervising one technician, and assisting the regional biologist with data analysis and report writing. This is a contract position funded from March 1, 2025 through February 28, 2026. This position will be based out of Casper, Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
- Maintain a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and be able to work independently and with others in a team setting.
- Work well with the public and represent the WGFD in a professional manner.
- Lead the creel survey crew of one technician and other regional fisheries technicians as assigned.
- Assist the regional fisheries management crew with night electrofishing to mark Walleye.
- Conduct angler interviews at boat ramps and check stations to obtain catch and harvest rate information and measure lengths from angler harvested fish.
- Operate and maintain time-lapse cameras at boat ramps to census watercraft launches.
- Plan creel schedule and adapt to changing patterns in angler use to ensure sufficient angler interviews are obtained.
- Oversee creel data entry, ensure timely and accurate data entry, and perform quality control checks on entered data.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with members of the public, WGFD, and other government agencies.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to those with a degree in fisheries and/or wildlife management, ecology, ichthyology, biology, natural resources management, or other closely related field, AND one or more years of applicable field experience.

KNOWLEDGE:
- Experience with sport-fish identification.
- Knowledge of Walleye and other cool/warmwater fishing techniques.
- Experience interacting with the public.
- Requires attention to detail, effective oral communication, and public relations skills.
- Experience working with large datasets.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to perform field work under adverse weather conditions.
- Irregular schedules, weekend, and holiday work will be required.
- Extensive overnight travel is required.

- FLSA: Non-exempt
