Activity Specialist I

Position Summary:  

This position will work in a maximum custody correctional facility developing and supervising resident activities including in the areas of recreation, arts, self-help, social interest groups, and other activities to assist residents in the rehabilitation process. Includes coordinating program activities of residents and volunteers, develop and supervise residents in the area of recreation and leisure activities. Including organizing sports, games, events, arts, crafts at a correctional facility. Schedule tournaments and matches for resident population. We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills, creativity, organizational skills, and who is teamwork oriented and enjoys working with people.

 

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:  

  • Confers with professional, medical, volunteer, or other staff to develop, organize and administer leisure activities for diverse population of offenders to ensure a constructive outlet for talents, personal interests and health.
  • Contributes to the departmental mission by assisting residents through personal interaction in developing positive behavioral changes by mean of group activity or individual growth.
  • Performs administrative duties in the maintenance of special projects to assure proper documentation, coordination and fiscal responsibility.
  • Develops and maintains a system of inventory for equipment and supplies to ensure adequate coverage of resident activities.
  • Conducts inspections, completes monthly reports and takes corrective action to comply with all General Orders, ACI standards, K.A.R.'s and IMPP's.
  • Supervise resident workers to ensure organization, sanitation and safety to offenders in activities and recreation areas.
  • Coordinates with operations staff to assure compliance with all security issues to include tool control, key control and resident movement.
