Simulation Software Engineering Intern

*This is a paid internship

Role Summary:

We are looking for a Simulation Software Engineering Intern to join the Real-Time Simulation Software team at Quantum Signal AI for the summer of 2025. This team specializes in simulating vehicle dynamics in varied roadway environments and traffic conditions. Simulations are used to test software and hardware platforms utilized in advanced driver assistance systems. You’ll work on various projects that will go on to contribute to the development of advanced vehicle features within Ford Motor Company ranging from traffic and pedestrian related driving autonomy to modeling vehicle dynamics, sensors, and driver behaviors in varying scenarios.

Location:

We are located in Saline, Michigan. This position is in-person to encourage a culture of collaboration and mentorship.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, develop, deploy, and support software, scenarios, and visualization tools for simulation and vehicle development exploration (typically using C++ or C# and scripting in Python or Shell environments)
  • Integrate with and extend software ecosystems using 3D engines and systems like CARLA Simulator, AVSimulation SCANeR, Unreal Engine, and Unity
  • Develop and support user testing and studies utilizing simulation environments and customized scenarios
  • Model the physical and signaling characteristics of various sensors, systems, and actors
  • Explore, prototype, and evaluate new technologies and approaches to extend existing simulation systems and workflows


What You’ll Bring:

 

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student with completed coursework in data structures and algorithms
  • Strong proficiency with development in at least one major programming language such as C++, Java, or Python and interest in learning others
  • General knowledge of software development on Linux and familiarity with command line use and navigation
  • Motivation to learn and try new technical approaches and technologies


Bonus Points For:

 

  • Familiarity with source control and other aspects of developing software as a team
  • Skills in IT systems administration and networking
  • Understanding of when you need help/feedback and a respect for the importance of peer critique and iterative design during development
  • Hobby, school, or professional experience in any of the following areas:
    • Game development and 3D rendering engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Godot, etc.
    • Driving simulation
    • Linear algebra, kinematics, and modeling of physical systems
