Community Planner-Main Street Program Specialist

Unleash your potential and make an impact! The Department of Commerce Rural Economic Development Division is currently accepting applications for a Main Street Program Specialist.

 

This position is eligible for a hybrid remote teleworking schedule to include weekly onsite work hours.  

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, as well as retirement.   

 


 

**Salary Grade: NC12**

 ***Recruitment Range: $44,588 - $61,142***


This position conducts and facilitates strategic economic development planning and technical assistance and capacity building, training and education, and grant and funding guidance to all designated NC Main Street communities, Small Town Main Street communities, and Downtown Associate Community programs.

In addition, this position is charged as a team member to assist with improving efficiencies of the Main Street program, developing new tools, resources, and programming to continue to make improvements to the program that results in increased investment, business growth and job creation in designated program communities.

The work is performed independently under general supervision of the Main Street Program Manager, and is reviewed through periodic reports, conferences, and evaluation of results achieved.

Travel is required including overnight trips.

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:   

 

  • Working knowledge of analytical planning techniques applied in the collection and evaluation of community data and in the preparation of planning reports and recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of technical planning methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental administration, especially at the local level.
  • Working knowledge of governmental programs and services pertinent to the planning and management assistance process.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with State and local officials and the general public.
  • Practical experience working with a local or statewide Main Street Program.
  • Experience working with small towns and rural communities on community and economic development projects, with knowledge of rural economic development challenges.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s degree in a planning curriculum or a field related to planning that includes planning courses from an appropriately accredited institution;

or Master’s degree in Public Administration, including planning courses from an appropriately accredited institution;

or Bachelor’s degree in a field related to planning from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of specifically related planning experience;

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
