Medical Assistant

Responsible for the care of patients under general supervision by the Nurse or Provider. Lead medical assistance  of the ICE Program Triage  setting is a specialty requiring a variety of skills, including  but not limited to: Receptionist, registration duties, ICD10 coding, data collection for billing procedures, charge posting , maintains appointment schedules, schedules surgeries/ procedures and obtains appropriate authorizations and referrals, provides appropriate patient instructions per provider orders. The Lead Medical Assistant assists in some practices with patient care providing first level counseling to staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs services in support of the clinical laboratories.(Blood Draws and UDS)       
  2. Sanitizes laboratory surfaces.
  3. Stocks laboratory supplies.
  4. Cleans laboratory exam rooms.
  5. Other duties as assigned or requested by the supervisor.
  6. Reports any job problems to supervisor and or provider.
  7. Reports any potential high level medical issues or concerns to the Provider immediately.(i.e. Faintness, S.O.B., Chest Pain, Heavy Bleeding)
  8. Participates in group meetings of staff and patients and participates with other staff members and patients in the unit activities.
  9. Maintains equipment and checks for adequate supplies
  10. Call manufacturer or supplier to enable repair of medical equipment.
  11. Reports any malfunction of equipment or the need for improvements or repairs of the interior or exterior of the building.
  12. Responsible for concise and adequate documentation.
  13. Responsible for analyzing specimens after instructions and supervision.
  14. Complete progress notes for each treatment activity in accordance with agency’s procedures and standards.
  15. Completion of necessary daily /weekly reports.
  16. Run and record required quality controls.
  17. Performs nursing procedures under supervision of the provider
  18. Assists the provider in examinations.
  19. Gives instructions to patients as instructed by provider.
  20. Preps patient for Provider, including takes blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respiration.
  21. Assists patients any time need is apparent or as directed by the nurse or provider.
  22. Assists and Perform with any ordered procedures that have been taught through formal training or by a licensed nurse or Provider.
  23. Perform CLIA waived lab procedures as ordered by Provider.
  24. Keeps medical records and forms in accordance to procedures.
  25. Follows principles of medical ethics for medical assistant.
  26. Follows up with all referrals from provider.
  27. Make sure all labs are signed off by provider within 72 hours of receiving.
  28. Draw blood on all residential/ community consumers for therapeutic levels/ health maintenance to assist with efficacy.
  29. Submit data for ICE survey via MINDLINC, meet quota monthly of 120 Consumers (adults and children).
  30. Complete ICE health screen via MINDLINC.
  31. Vitals, height weight and waist measurement.
  32. Draw labs on 90% of ICE participants. Collect mental health screens off all ICE participants and record to ICE graph. Referral are given for all abnormal labs after presented to NP. Case manager and consumers are given the referral forms with follow up as indicated. Follow up with consumers to educate re:  health maintenance.
  33. Assembles patient medical records prior to provider/nurse receiving the record.
  34. Gathers data relevant to the patient’s age group and individual needs.
  35. Obtains and records:
  • Vital signs
  • Time in/date
  • Weight
  • Medication profile
  • Immunization record
  • Allergies
  • Chief compliant
  • Signature/initials where appropriate

            

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education- Medical Assistant Diploma by accredited college.
  • Experience- One year as a Medical Assistant in mental and primary care health.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, appropriate automobile insurance and valid license tags.
