Overview

The Healthcare Leadership Development Program is a three-year healthcare administrative and business leadership acceleration program at City of Hope. Fellows work in teams on rotational projects in a variety of business functions such as strategy, analytics, hospital operations, product development, tech innovation, pharmacy, community outreach, and patient experience.

To drive enterprise initiatives, you will learn how to shape project management plans, engage cross-functional stakeholders, perform in-depth research & analysis, and present your insights to executives and stakeholders. Throughout the three-year program, you will be trained in strategic problem-solving, cross-functional communication, project & program leadership, and peer-to-peer mentorship, while receiving mentorship from senior executives to develop your knowledge and skills.

By the end of the program, you will be equipped to transition into full-time opportunities at City of Hope or beyond.

This is a remote program with occasional project-based travel requirements.

Expectations for Fellows (by year)

First-year Fellows demonstrate a growth mindset, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to execute throughout their project rotations. You will develop problem-solving skills, build your professional network, and learn about the business of healthcare. Three-to-six-month projects will provide you with an in-depth understanding of specific business units as well as broad exposure across a variety of business functions.

Second-year Fellows lead project teams, guide first-years in problem-solving, and learn to turn in-depth analyses into high-level insights to present to executives. As a second-year Fellow, you will continue to partner with project sponsors for strategic initiatives as the key liaison, engage and collaborate with stakeholders, and turn data into actionable, meaningful presentations or written reports to deliver to project sponsors. More importantly, you will proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks to ensure project success. Additionally, you will develop your management skills by managing internal logistics of the Fellowship program (recruitment, development, onboarding, and other functions).

Third-year Fellows build on the expectations of first and second-year Fellows, leading end-to-end projects on enterprise initiatives and transition into gaining depth and specialization in a particular business function. You will sharpen your leadership skills through identifying and engaging stakeholders, leading first-year and second-year Fellows on projects, and serving in an advisory role for Fellowship initiatives. When projects face high uncertainty or minimal guidance, you will be able to leverage your knowledge, experience, and skills to bring clarity, structure, and value to the projects. Throughout your third year, you will lead high-profile projects, specialize in a business area, and seek out full-time opportunities at City of Hope or elsewhere upon graduation of the program.

Beyond the Fellowship, alumni of the program have gone on to pave a wide variety of career paths including leveraging their network to secure full-time positions within City of Hope, returning to higher education, finding roles at other companies, both within and outside of the healthcare industry and even starting their own businesses! Regardless of your career path, you will join a community of Program Alumni who provide mentorship, support, and guidance as you jump-start your career!
