Job Summary: 

The Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) in the Department of Psychiatry at UI Health is seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) Research Associate II – Social Sciences to support several community-partnered research studies. The RA will work on various projects under the direction of multiple principal investigators within IJR. IJR’s mission is to develop and promote effective policy and practices to prevent mental health difficulties and relieve the mental health burden of children and families living in high poverty urban communities through research, teaching, and direct service. This position specifically works with research studies serving Latine populations, and more broadly, community members living in the West and South Side Communities of Chicago. 

The successful candidate will be exceptionally detail oriented, possess strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to juggle multiple tasks and strong interpersonal skills. Specific tasks include following established research protocols to recruit and consent participants, facilitate interventions, collect, and manage quantitative and qualitative data, coordinate the maintenance of data collection and analyses tools (e.g., via REDCap), and maintain positive relationships with community partners. The candidate will also prepare research results for presentations and reports, with opportunities to contribute to publications, grants, and presentations. The candidate may perform other duties related to psychological research and participate in special projects as assigned. 

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties): 

With guidance, training, and supervision from the Senior Research Manager and project PIs, candidates must be able to: facilitate groups for teens from diverse neighborhoods and backgrounds, conduct study activities through following established protocols and manuals, conduct literature reviews and gather project background information, as required, recruit and consent participants for study activities, conduct primary data collection through interviews and surveys (in both English and Spanish) with community members and staff from community partner organizations, converse with guardians (in both English and Spanish) about study activities for their teens, assist with Community Advisory Board Meetings, assist in analyzing qualitative data, assist in preparation of presentations and reports for dissemination of project data and findings, and perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as contributing to IRB submissions, notetaking during meetings, document review and editing.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. 

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience: 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required. A minimum of one-year related research experience. Knowledge of research concepts, practices, and procedures. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience working with teen populations, particularly ages 13-18 Experience facilitating groups in educational settings (i.e. afterschool programs, support groups, instruction) Experience working with community stakeholders in community settings Interest's civic engagement/activism, mental health, and digital mental health interventions Comfort with being in medical settings (e.g., primary care) Experience with quantitative and qualitative analyses
