Climate Smart Healthcare Coordinator- AmeriCorps VISTA

Position Title: Climate Smart Healthcare (CSHC) Coordinator [Full time (37.5 hours/week) – AmeriCorps VISTA Member]

About the Organization:

Michigan Clinicians for Climate Action (MiCCA) is a coalition of Michigan health professionals focused on mitigation and prevention of adverse health effects of climate change through educating, empowering, and engaging health professionals, the public, and policy makers. We use our trusted healthcare voices to amplify environmental justice issues, weigh in on policy, and inform our patients and politicians of the human costs of climate change and fossil fuel pollution.

 Position Overview: The Climate Smart Healthcare (CSHC) Campaign Coordinator will build momentum in the healthcare sustainability space by supporting healthcare workers that want to see change at their own institution. They will provide networking spaces, empower healthcare workers to take action through community organizing, educate themselves on the resources available to accelerate action in the space, and build relationships with under-resourced, essential care facilities to connect them to grant opportunities. 

 

AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a stipend of $875 bi-weekly stipend and an education award of $7,395 or a cash stipend of $1,800 upon completion of service.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Meet virtually with healthcare professionals interested in developing sustainability teams in their healthcare facilities
  • Track opportunities for healthcare facilities to invest in renewable energy, sustainability, community resilience or building decarbonization work
  • Serve as a virtual support person for in-hospital sustainability teams by researching questions, providing contacts, and helping with logistics and notetaking
  • Cultivate relationships with under-resourced healthcare facilities and connect them with support and opportunities
  • Help plan and implement an in-person meeting for hospital sustainability advocates from across the state, alongside 2-3 virtual gatherings
  • Manage documents, databases, and communication platforms (e.g., Google Drive, MS Office).

Qualifications:

  • Strong advocacy skills and a demonstrated commitment to addressing climate change
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Drive.
  • Experience with WIX website editing or willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to learn and self-motivated.
  • Strong investigative and research skills
  • Event planning skills or capabilities
  • Connection to health field and/or understanding of movement building preferred but not required.
