Academic Consultant

Summary:  Help students reach a level of competency in specific academic areas related to their program of study at the Career Center and provide remedial services to those students who need to develop their general academic skills. Additionally, the consultant will serve as an educational leader by partnering with program instructors, and sharing resources to help students and instructors succeed in the classroom.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work is performed under the general supervision of administration. An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (Does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)

  1. Works with classroom/program instructor to plan, model and implement lessons designed to support academics as related to the class curriculum.
  2. Incorporates a variety of teaching strategies, tools, and resources, including technology, to enhance student learning and engagement. Provides instructors with materials, strategies, and resources to use in their classroom.
  3. Plans a program of study, activities and assignments, which demonstrates current knowledge of industry standards and practices, alignment of content and instruction, incorporation of building improvement goals, and meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students. 
  4. Uses student data to evaluate effective instructional delivery and make adjustments as appropriate. 
  5. Creates an environment of respect and rapport with students and staff. 
  6. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and collaborates with teachers on student progress. 
  7. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. 
  8. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  9. Relates to students of all skill levels, academic levels and diverse ethnic and gender backgrounds. Demonstrates commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  10. Follows and enforces all policies and procedures in support of a safe work environment for students and staff.
  11. Responsible for the program budget (expenditures and incomes) and making recommendations to the administration for purchases.
  12. Follows all building, staff handbook and Board of Education policies and guidelines.
  13. Participates in professional development activities, some of which may be outside the contractual workday.
  14. Participates in activities related to cooperative education, placement and employer contacts.
  15. Participates in ISD activities and committees, and community and marketing activities.
  16. Other duties assigned by the Principal or Designee.   
  17. Provides individual academic support needs relating to the Career Center program.
  18. Contributes to achievement of school improvement goals and successful student outcomes on state assessments by providing students academic support.
