National WIC Association Internship Program

The National WIC Association (NWA), is now accepting applications for its Fall 2024 Internship Program. NWA is a high-impact non-profit, member organization that represents more than 2,000 service provider agencies that offer quality nutrition education, breastfeeding support, health care and other social referral services to women and young children in over 10,000 WIC clinics nationwide. 

Position Summary:

NWA’s interns would support one of the following NWA’s departments:

·       Communications

·       Center for Innovative Practices in WIC (Health Equity, Research, Program Innovation, and Public Health Nutrition, Technology)

·       Public Policy

Eligibility and Schedule:

Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply. Positions can be used to fulfill practicum requirements and/or for university credit.  Applicants must be willing to dedicate a minimum of 200 hours over the course of a semester. There is some flexibility in the schedule (i.e. applicants can do 10 weeks of 20 hours, or 15 weeks at 13 hours), and individual schedules can be discussed with internship supervisors. Participants may go beyond 200 hours as desired or to fulfill practicum requirements, up to a maximum of 300 hours. Interns will determine their specific schedule with their supervisor.

Location: Remote. If a candidate is located in the DC metro area, there may be a possibility for some in-person work. However, the majority of this work will be completed remotely and candidates do not have to reside in DC to be eligible for this internship.

Compensation:

Undergraduate interns will receive $17.50 per hour, and graduate students $18.50 per hour. 

Internship Dates: August 13, 2024 through December 13, 2024, with some flexibility on start and end dates based on candidate’s schedule.

The deadline for applications is July 31th at 5 pm Eastern Time. Resumes should be no longer than 2 pages. Cover letters should be no longer than 1 page, and should detail:

• Why you are interested in interning at NWA, and how your skillset and experience would fit your identified department
• What experiences/skills do you hope to gain/grow through interning with NWA?
• Describe your status as either a student or recent graduate; if a student, please describe whether you would be doing this internship for credit or to fulfill a practicum, and note any requirements of that component.
