Associate Clerk Treasurer

Associate Clerk Treasurer

Do you possess superior communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a service-based attitude? How about solid computer skills and a basic understanding of bookkeeping best practices? The Clerk-Treasurer’s office has a team of 6 full-time Associate Clerk-Treasurers who perform various duties and back each other up in all functions. A typical day of an Associate Clerk-Treasurer may begin with processing mail, applying payments to utility accounts, and settling bank accounts from the day before, followed by helping to plan the next election or issue a license to a customer. Maybe it’s your day to process invoices or take minutes at the committee or council meeting. We have deposits to prepare, drawers to balance, and deadlines to meet. Of course, we have plenty of documentation to track, data to enter, and departments to assist with, but as a team, it all gets done!

•  Experience working in a professional office environment 

•  Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, especially Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles to assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable and process journal entries
  • Polite phone presence and strong customer service skills

•  Positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team

•  Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with data entry

•  Strong work ethic and a self-starter who anticipates and completes tasks without being asked

•  Must have solid organizational skills

•  An understanding of how to use common office equipment such as printers, copiers and scanners is a plus

What qualifications are necessary for the role?

To perform the essential duties of the position, the minimum education and experience required includes:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in accounting, finance, business or related field is required. 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, public administration, or related field is required 
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Have a valid state-issued driver’s license at time of hire.

What is the typical schedule?

Typically, you will work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30am-4:30pm with some flexibility.

 

What is the pay?

The starting annual salary for this position is $47,422 ($22.80 per hour); this is a non-exempt position. This position is also eligible for annual economic adjustments and performance-based adjustments, as approved by the City Council.

When factoring in the benefits alongside your annual salary, the overall compensation rate could range from $59,726 to $74,463 per year, contingent upon the selected benefits and coverage types.  

Furthermore, the City of Janesville strives to ease the transition between employers by minimizing the stress associated with gaps in insurance coverage. For new hires before the 15th of the month, medical, dental, and vision insurance become effective on the date of hire. For those hired on or after the 15th of the month, these benefits kick in on the 1st of the following month.
