Hatchery Maintenance Intern

Program Dates: September 9, 2024 - September 7, 2025

Project Location: San Marcos, TX

 

About us:  The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country. 

 

Program Description:

The San Marcos Aquatic Resources Center is part of the National Fish Hatchery System - a network of fish hatcheries, fish health centers, fish technology centers, and the Aquatic Animal Drug Approval Partnership program. Together they provide services that help us manage aquatic resources, protect the health of our wild and hatchery-raised fish, and recover threatened and endangered species. The unparalleled conservation efforts of this system not only enhance aquatic species and their habitats and improve fishing opportunities for our Nation’s 58 million recreational anglers.  

The intern would complete a wide range of hatchery maintenance duties including landscaping, plumbing, painting, and carpentry. Responsibilities may also include mechanical or small engine maintenance. Work tasks are both in climate-controlled buildings and outdoors.

 

Member Benefits:

  • Living Allowance: $680 per week
  • Reimbursable duty-related travel: $ 750 total.

Member Qualifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Personal vehicle required 
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. (day pack/bags of equipment)
  • Ability to assist and engage with the public.
  • A positive attitude
