Purchasing Specialist

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a Purchasing Specialist to assist in the sourcing and procuring of equipment, materials, supplies and services in support of all programs and business units. This role requires analysis, supplier negotiations, sourcing quotes, processing awards, supplier management and compliance to processes and procedures.

We are looking for an employee who can work full-time hours (40/week) year-round. We’d prefer the employee is able to report in-person to our office in North Logan, Utah on a regular basis for various meetings and other job duties.

Duties Include:

  • Source and procure goods and services from many suppliers
  • Review requests for purchases and assist in researching pricing and suppliers
  • Work cross functionally with other departments to ensure compliance or specifications are appropriate for the services or products required, including requestors, Contracts, Property, Program Managers and Quality Assurance
  • Initiate and evaluate quotes, bids, and proposals to determine most beneficial procurement outcome
  • Participate in purchasing performance metrics, continuous improvement activities and related efforts
  • Work with suppliers to resolve issues
  • Represent the company with professional and ethical conduct when interacting with all contacts, including suppliers, customers, and colleagues
  • Evaluate and monitor supplier quality, reliability, and schedule for orders from acquisition through completion of order, including delivery and payment
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve efficiency and manage risk
  • Ensure that appropriate documentation is provided through internal systems and apps
  • Process invoices for payment and coordinate with the Accounting Department to resolve questions on supplier’s invoices
  • Daily efforts include data entry, issuance of purchase orders, documentation, and reconciliation of records
  • Interface with internal and external auditors
  • Create and monitor supplier profiles including evaluation, performance, and capabilities 

Basic Requirements:

  • Must have a high school diploma and 5+ years of professional experience in Procurement/Supply Chain/Subcontracts in a government contractor and/or R&D environment
    • A relevant bachelor’s degree (in supply chain management, business, finance, or related field) may be substituted for 5 years of experience. In addition to the degree, we are looking for someone who has direct working experience.
  • Negotiation, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Professional written and verbal communications skills
  • High degree of knowledge utilizing Microsoft and Adobe product suites
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Compliance to relevant processes and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, finance, or related field
  • Experience developing and applying best value analysis
  • Knowledge of government contracting requirements and regulations (e.g. FAR, DFARS, ITAR, Utah Procurement Code)
  • Knowledge of JAMIS Prime ERP
